http://io9.com/first-live-action-monster-movie-movie-from-the-minds-of-480229723 As I understand it it is part of a Tokusatsu exhibition. I guess the looks and effects are rather an homage than a serious take on a Nausicaa sequel: http://m.crunchyroll.com/article/?id=18395 PS: god warrior vending machine
^^ Indeed . . . . thats what comment sections are for . . . people love to piss and moan! I'm not overly excited about it going on the strength of the trailer, but you cant blame them for trying new things (admittedly in a retro style). I think i will stick with all the great animation from Studio Ghibli for now.
lol. Ok, unlike the Nag, Opportunistic, New threads around here, I don't think the criticisms really made sense. Someone was complaining that it looked like it was made in the 70s, and someone else about how their animation looks way better than this... etc.
Very cool looking, it's the giant god soldier from "Nausicaa" Many versions of the figure are available. http://samshiofigure.blogspot.com/2013/03/figma-giant-warrior-review-studio-ghibli.html http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/shop/en/item_s-953556.html
Very cool. I saw some of the gatchas on Mandarake, but neat to see better pics. A little too detailed for my tastes... man what I would give for a Bullmarky style figure of ANYTHING from Nausicaa, Mononoke, or Laputa. I'd buy a vinyl Ohmu even if it wasn't GID.
Nausicaa is one of my favourites... I really like the God warrior's mouth.... did anyone get subtitles to work for it?
I got subtitles to appear on the scree. Working on the other hand.... Noooooooooooo, not the Tokyo Tower - it can never catch a break. Cool short, thought I prefer to look on it outside of the world of Nausicaa. I particularly liked the way they made all the observers 'frozen' during the rampage. I am also really glad for once to see "aliens" the land on Earth and actually use their tech in a logical fashion. Bay et al. could learn a lot from this thinking. Oh, but I forgot - EXPLOSIONS!!!!!!
The creature design on this was by Takayuki Takeya! As a bigtime Miyazaki/Ghibli/Takeya fan, I wasn't as blown away by this as I expected to be when I clicked the link (actually found it on FB just last night), but it was still pretty damn cool. The best is when the god warrior is just hovering low over the city.
scrolled through the video super quick, but might this be a prequel to nausicaa? we were the one that created them and basically ruined the earth for generations to come.
Incredible puppetry and model work, and perfect incorporation of CG. I especially liked how the weapon blasts melt everything. Looks so much more primeval and final than a simple explosion. Oh for a ticket to Japan to see that exhibit...
They showed this at the Tokusatsu Exhibition last summer in Tokyo also, I think that was the premier. It was pretty cool seeing it in a theater, everyone was in awe. Even better was seeing the actual puppet they used, two guys in blue suits doing a conga line behind it to control all the movement.
So I came across more of the gachapon toys on Mandarake, and couldn't resist at 600 yen a piece. Vinyl or not I am happy to have some GID toys that reference Nausicaa.
