Items stolen recently during a break-in at Kimono MY House (Emeryville CA). This is all over FB and IG but i thought it was worth mentioning on SB. The more collectors know about this the better. There was more kaiju stuff stolen, its all covered on their IG page ... @kimonomyhousetoys
Yeah I saw that on IG. Looks like they really cleaned them out. Hopefully given the niche market for these that the culprit gets caught and they can get their stuff back.
Indeed. I'm not on IG but a lot of people are saying it looked targeted, as if the culprit is a collector themselves. I pointed out that a flipper would know what stuff is worth without actually being a collector.
Yeah some of the comments seem to suggest they had a specific collector in mind as a potential suspect. Based on the pics of what was taken it was definitely targeted and not just a random free for all. Hopefully they are scouring various sources to see if anything comes up for sale but if it was stolen to order they may struggle.
Well damn, this sucks. Really sorry to hear this for KMH and all the staff and fans of the shop. I never had the pleasure myself to visit, but it has been a mainstay of the Japanese collecting scene long before most of the things we commonly reference nowadays. I heard only great stories and memories from people, and it seemed like it really was a love far more than a business and brought a ton of joy and inspiration to local residents and visitors. I hope they can possibly recoup some of the stolen items, or at least some justice comes to those who are responsible.
Didn't Lulubell Toys have a break-in years ago? I swear i remember one of the things stolen was a giant Kozik RxH figure ... i wonder if they ever got their stuff back?
Fuckers. On iG I believe the owner even said she was pretty sure she knew who it was! I’ve never been there, but it’s always been apparent how loved KMH is. I hope they get to recover the lost items.
they just change random locations in the middle of Emmeryville every five years or so. I remember walking three floors in what seemed like an apt complex when I was a kid to KMH. They've had at least three locations that I remember. Though I could be completely wrong. Awesome store
