I did this sculpt for Blurble, and figured I'd get the thread going for him. Super fun working on this figure, and I can't wait to get one once they are being cast! Unfortunately I don't have the pleasure of casting these myself - no space here for the casting gear (and it would be so expensive to buy it all again, and in Yen...). Anyway, here's gus. He articulates at the waist and the arms. I'm sure Mike (Blurble) will chime in here eventually
Re: Gus Gus has been in the works for a while now. I am very pleased with how Awesome the sculpt came out! Jon has been great friend through this whole process and he is an amazing sculptor and artist. Gus is going to be made into resin in the coming months and will be up for pre-order soon. Its been a long road and life has been a bit challenging on getting this guy made but he will get made into resin! Here is one of the sketches of Gus. Re: Gus Bah! And I have been following Steven's stuff for quite a while now... My brain failed to make the connection Good thing is - one Gus gets retired and another is born! I'll email Steven and tell him about the goof... I assure all concerned persons that the name is a complete coincidence.
Re: Gus This is really solid. The sculpting is done well and I really dig the character. Love the legs and the face. Cant wait to see some of these painted up.
Re: Gus It's ok my Gus is now retired. It should be Gus II and have no relation to mine, just like troll II
Re: Gus I feel bad. I love Stevens work and own several of his pieces and I guess it never clicked in my head on the name. Maybe a name change is in order or Gus II could work.
Re: Gus gus + two = gusto? gustav? goose (gus + deuce)? it's early and i've already had one naming brainstorm... might as well keep it going... =p looking good, jon & mike! i spotted these on jon's flickr last night, really liked the way the jeans turned our as well!
Re: Gus Ha! Great minds think alike! I was driving to work thinking of a different name for the guy and I was really liking Gusto. Then I hopped on sb and saw this post. I love it! Gusto it is.
Re: Gus Thanks for posting here steven! And thanks fir the PM too (-_-)-b Gusto sounds great! After all - he sure looks yummy
Re: Gusto (ガースト) Thanks Rich! I'm sure mike will be excited if you grab one to paint (I certainly will ). The sculpt was a work in progress for quite loooong time. Went through a resculpt or two, and the the articulation was almost as much work! I'm glad with how it turned out though - should be pretty playable for a resin figure!
Re: Gusto (ガースト) Oh, I'm aware of the phoenetic reading of ガースト。 Here in Japan there is a chain oif family restaurants named 'Gusto' - the closest that the katakana sillibary can accomplish is ガースト、which is actually pronounced something like 'gah-sto.'. Thanks for your concern though
Re: Gusto (ガースト) Ah! Yes! The phonetics! Spanish and Japanese phonetics are very similar so was thinking of it in Spanish. hahaha But yeah, you're right, 'gah' does sound like the 'gu' in English. Thanks for clearing it up.
Re: Gusto (ガースト) This guys is really looking sharp Jon. I think you have executed something fantastic from Mike's design. I am really liking the droopy, wrinkled skin, and the jeans are an excellent touch. I really can't wait to see this guy in resin, or, dare I say it, vinyl??!
Re: Gusto (ガースト) Thanks Steve and Dedo. I'm really looking forward to this guy all done up- and to some hp's from Mike! (especially looking forward to getting my grubby hands on one )
Re: Gusto (ガースト) Thank you to everyone for the awesome comments! This has been a fun project to work on and to get to know Jon better. I am planning on doing a run of blanks and some painted and a couple one offs. I can't wait to see how others paint him up.
Gusto is finally here in Resin!! I painted a few up and will be releasing them in my shop this Saturday around 11am pst. Huge thanks to Jon and Cliff! P1020506 by ß∫∆˚®˙ß∫£, on Flickr
