yup, thats rainbowman. since i needed to bust out one of these guys anyways, i thought i would take a group shot. the yellow moon man (non) talker still freaks me out with the grandma glasses, and the crecent moon in the cabbage patch hair.
Jim, you beat me to it. I have been meaning to post my RainbowMan vinyls for some time. I love this show and what a great marketing idea to have a hero who can take seven different shapes (although most companies only made four.) First up are the (non)talkers and Bandai giant size. These stand around 38cm tall. The one with the cape is the (non)talker as you can see from the back shot. These are standard size, about 29cm tall. They have the Takatoku mark but also a Bandai sticker. I think these were the only ones made in this size. These are the Takatoku middle size, about 19cm tall. Not sure if these were the only ones made in this size. These are various bootleg minis, although some are marked RainbowMan and have copyright info. These range in size from 14cm to 17cm. There are lots more of these that I do not have. These are more bootlegs including a clear w/ sparkles vinyl and a Nakajima nodder. Nakajima made all seven as nodders but prices on those recently have been insane. The nodder stands 24cm tall. One of the bootlegs has the cape molded in vinyl, a nice touch. These are my favorite bootlegs. The baby doll looking one stands 31 cm tall and the one with all seven masks is 29cm tall. I really like collecting RainbowMan vinyls for the variety. There is also a set of seven minis with arms up in the air that always fetch very high prices. If anyone is looking to sell ones that I need (especially the two non-talkers) please hit me up.
good god, mark just reminds me how lazy i have become in collecting rainbowman. i do have an extra fireman nakajima nodder if your interested mark.
Interesting bootleg(?) Rainbowman a friend of mine came across. Nicely done header/backing card for an unlicensed toy. Large size around 12 inches. Has anyone ever seen this one before or have any info?
That is killer! Reminds me of all the great Kikaida boots with nice packaging I used to see years ago.
Wow, that's a really great Rainbowman boot. Shows some decent quality, and I can't believe how great the condition of it is! I don't know how any kid could resist begging his mom to buy one of these or taking it out of the package, whatever the history of it is.
Did your friend get that at Meltdown comics in LA? I have seen that figure there for years, but I think it has a pretty heavy price tag. $350 maybe? Its cool, but always thought the price was a bit high...
Yeah thats the place. He said the guy wanted $150 which seemed reasonable. I passed on it so its still there at Meltdown if anyone's interested. Guess it took him years to realize $350 wasnt the appropriate price for this guy.
Hey Mark K, I got the Rainbowman from your third pic on the end. Ever find out if it was Takatoku or Bandai? Both?:
That's a good question. Not sure about the history/relationship between these two companies, but it appears to be some sort of collaboration as the header and backing card also sport both logos.
The brown version is the rock form. So stylized, it is easily the coolest. That multiple head bootleg is aswesome - are you sure it is bootleg or just unmarked? If I am right, the ultraman that has all the heads (in green, yellow, red, etc.) is unmarked, but is real as the backing card has the logo.
Thanks guys. Yeah there is just so many licensed toys and bootlegs of Rainbowman in circulation making him a really fun character to collect. I know I want the clear glitter and blue gloved versions of the bootleg with black gloves/boots in the pic (you can see them in Mark's pics above) and Scott (scobot) has a bootleg raised hands mini that I'd love to find: http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottvan/8123646180/ Was there a licensed removable mask Rainbowman? The one with all the extra heads/masks maybe?
Did anyone score this clear bootleg Rainbowman on YJA recently? I bowed out around 6700 yen (well my snipe bid was too low by the time it was placed). Not mad or anything, just wondering if anyone here got it. Really great version. I never saw this particular bootleg in clear vinyl: http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d143228501
Whoah, that is really cool. The way the clear vinyl lets light pass through really works with the sunburst ornament on his turban, plus metallic blue sprays can do no wrong.
That is definitely an amazing figure. I can't take credit for snaggin' it though. I am fairly certain this probably looks about a thousand times better too with a proper photo, and it already has been amazed.
