The had a split 12" between them and Earth for sale on the tour. only £12. Quite a few on eBay for £40 already.

Parka, did you buy any of these split 12 inchers?

Black One has some good stuff on it. Sunn either kills me or bores me to death; there is no inbetween.

I have some lengthy interviews with Stephen O'Malley, Greg Anderson, and Aaron Turner that I'm going to get around to putting up on EsoTerra.com one of these days. The articles together connect lots of dots...

Yeah, its on nice gold vinyl too. Earth played the song on the split, and most of HEX. Sounded really good.

Sunn0))) seemed to play the song on Black 1 with Malefic - for 50minutes or so.

Agree with you about Sunn though, some songs/albums I can listen to on repeat, some I just have to skip.

Stephen O'Malley is quite a small guy isn't he, very softly spoken. He bought a couple of Trollmann CD's from me.

When I get some more made up , do you want me to send you some copies Chad?

Parka (and the rest of the board), you may always send me lots of free stuff! I like goodie boxes. These days, I live vicariously thru my mail box, when the NOLA mail people feel inclined to deliver the mail.

I have known Stephen since he use to publish Descent magazine but, unfortunately, we've never met in person.

The Earth HEX release is really good. Especially if you like Spaghetti Westerns and have a thing for the Old West.

I haven't been exposed to much old Earth and never really liked much of what I'd heard but HEX is really exceptional.

    ah yes, the photos.

They were all wearing black robes and got on stage after walking through the crowd.

Heres the best I could get:

The flash took all the colour out - the stage was completely red (like the vid). Heres what it looked like without flash

wow, I'm not the only one dealing with the mind numbing headache of 'limited edition' vinyl in regards to toys and records (haha)

funny that in all the discussion over the kaws/pushead release no one bothered to question why (given the popularity of said artists) a larger production run wasn't considered??

sunn 0))) stuck to pressings of 500 and lower for the longest time but since their fanbase exploded (and the flippers began to take control) they thoughtfully bumped BLACK ONE and the sunn/earth tour 12" to a pressing of 2000

nothing wrong with THAT - and everyone's happy

Parka - cool photos ......check the following link

I think there's some sort of 93 current running thru the toys and into the music. Or is it from the music and into the toys?

Cool to see like-minded heavy music lads.

Now, if we can get Anderson and O'Malley to put out a Kaiju inspired release I can get them into the mag! ha!

Any opinions, good or bad, about Isis, Old Man Gloom, Lotus Eaters, Khanate...?

I like my metal hybrid with a little melody and drone. What say ye?

I like my heavy music, but I don't know those above or Sunn. Can you fill me in? It sounds like it is all of a certain genre.

ISIS is probably one of my favorite bands, i'm making the 2 hour hike to cleveland in april to see them. I just got the new live 2xLP, sweet shit.
Old Man Gloom is pretty tight also i have christmas, christmas eve and meditations, i like the more hardcore jams on these rather than the experimental.
Khanate is hit or miss. I just got the capture and release 12" these songs are a bit painful to listen to. I also have the live version archive CD that i like better.
Lotus Eaters i dont' get much into as well as House of low culture.

Boris pink is seriously amzing it has the right amounts of everything.

also dig Pelican, mogwai, red sparowes etc...

The new mogwai is pretty tight; i like how they evolved over the years.

I am not sure what i think of Isis lately. I think they hit a real peak with Celestial then after that, I haven't been as hot on the production of the records. I liked when they were trying to make the recordings sound like neurosis. I understand they had to change, and they did it well, but i have to admit i look on celestial and sgnl05 (which i finally found on vinyl) very fondly. I'd kill for that double live lp; i bet they're on the top of their game.

Old man Gloom has to be my favorite... Seminar II and III are absolutely outstanding. I think the reason i like them so much is that they really paint pictures with sound inbetween the heavy stuff. They seem more like film scores than record albums in some ways. I also think since OMG is a sideproject for great players in other great bands, they can kind of relax and take some risks with OMG.

Another really amazing band in the heavy/sludgy vein is Examination Of... They did a record with Kurt Ballou of Converge called the Whitest of Elephants. It's absolutely amazing. I saw them live once at a tough-guy hardcore show and they overwhelmed the jersy wearing kickboxers with unreal volume. For you musician types, both guitar players were rocking 2 4x12's (driven by two amps) and the bass player had two 8x10's with a head for each. For the size of room the show was in, it was a crazy amount of amplification. Half the people who i talked to after the show were like 'hippy rock "I'M ABOUT TO BE BANNED"' and the other half were like "....so fucking loud..."

Aphexjim - was Oren Ambarchi playing with Sunn at that show you videotaped? I heard that he (and I think Kevin Drumm) did some of the shows in Australia.

So I took a listen to Sunn-0))) "White 1" at the music store today. Had been hearing a bit about them, so figured I'd check it out. I kinda liked it, but no enough to buy - it was far too minimalist for me. I was wondering if all their albums are like that, or if "White 1" is different than their other stuff. From above, it sounds like maybe "Black 1" or "2" might be better?
Anyway, I dig the really heavy low end, but would like a bit more happening on top...

Out of all these bands Pelican is hands down my favorite. Seen them 5 times or so and they're never less than excellent. The records are good (especially Australasia) but live it's just jaw-dropping.

I saw Sunn-O))) a while ago at a little club here and liked the idea, but I thought the songs should have had either more structure or - preferably - less (more of a drone type thing). Perhaps it would have been better with a bigger sound system, as a friend of mine saw them in Chicago and said people were leaving due to overwhelmingly intense bass frequencies.

Saw pelican a couple months ago and it was disappointing. I feel like maybe it was a bad night for them. The drummer was speeding up and slowing down and guitars had tuning issues.

    Australasia indeed kicks ass though.

There is kaiju related heavy noise, Namanax. Pretty good stuff, James Plotkin has his hand in this one. About a decade old, there were a few releases, I got the one below.

My brother was lucky enough to see Boris and Sunn play last year, their colaboration is nuts.
