SdCC thread 2017

Is there anything of note??

SDCC is a fun time with the peers that go... besides that its becoming dead year after year... dependant on one thing this might be my last year attending the actual convention... we will see...

 

There will be . . . but mostly it'll be quietly awful!

 

Sucks it has changed over the years. 10 years ago I was about to fly down and do it but life shit got in the way. Now I hear it isn't quite like it was which is disappointing since I've never been. Will Stella Chu be there? lol

 

Last time I went was around 1988 when it had a lot to do with comics. It just sounds insane nowadays.

 

If you are a Sofubi collector SDCC is not the place to be, might as well wait until November for DCon or just go to PK show at Gunzo.
I mostly go to San Diego just for PK show and to spend some time with family.

 

Probably the only thing I'd pick up from sdcc

 

Been waiting to see what DKE has got. They tend to be the best booth at sdcc these days.

 

I'll be there but I haven't seen anything to get to crazy over. A shitload of funko stuff, but no toys to get excited over that I've seen. I guess there's going to be a Kong: Skull Island, outside the convention that might be alright. Shit.. just checked and didn't see Gargamel on the list this year..

 

Feeling the same about NYCC this year... seems everything I used to go to check out has its own convention now...still haven't been to SDCC so I can't knock it until I try it I guess.

 

Sdcc is fun for the glitz and glam honestly... it still tears nycc to shreds... but on our little niche of collecting... we now have dcon and F4F... Out of all people how have you not came to sdcc yet? Lol come on down before we all jump ship!

 

Some of us are already on the shoreline, waving as the ship slowly sinks!

 

I'm wondering if I'll ever see you stateside again

 

Magic 8-ball says 'Very doubtful . . . . Japan > USA everytime these days and still a whole chunk of Europe to check out before they close the doors on us!

 

Last year was our last. Capped it off with 10 years. The changes that happened within that time period was too much. Even the comic vendors we talked to felt SDCC was no longer theirs. Everything is now lotto. Tickets, hotels, and the final straw was lotto parking. Our favorite vendors/toy makers priced out of affording booths. When our hidden hotel raised their prices to downtown SD prices that was the last nail in the coffin.

Glad we got to participate all those years. Now Nate and I are free to attend other conventions/events we are interested in. Its refreshing to have a summer that's not nailed down by SDCC.

If you can attend go ahead, it is an experience.

EDIT: I do miss the haul pics. That was fun to see what everyone got.

 

ive never been to sdcc but ive had a couple things muled. mainly toys that shouldnt be discussed here BUT its a bummer seeing regular con-goers not attending anymore because of the shit show it seems to have become.

Yeah, a bit of a let down on releases this year. That being said, the Gargamel sculpted micros are absolute stunners.

 

Whats up w the return of Mindstyle!? A gaggle of new "sofubi" toys?? I see glued style joints and paints reminiscent of Funkos sofubi.
