Has anybody had any experience using masking liquid on soft vinyl? There are types that are pretty much liquid latex.. Does it have any issues gripping the slick vinyl surface? And does it react badly to paints like MK or V Color? Any issues when you peel it off?
Im pretty sure its made for paper cause i remember it not giving me a clean edge cause on smooth vinyl it would just do whatever it wanted if you know what i mean. I used it with mk and i dont think it reacted with it or anything. But i know that it came out like complete shit and i ended up just handpainting what i wanted to use it for. I wouldnt recommend it on vinyl at all.
Ahhh fair enough! I bought a botle, but it looks like I'll have to save it for when I get around to doing sick 80s style illustrations at some point..
Yea i never used mine again.. Maybe one day. Ithink its for watercolor. Oh well. Would be really cool if it worked right on vinyl. Just get yourself some paper frisket and pinstripe tape.. Much better.
There are masking liquids made by mr. colour and other hobby companies. These ones will work on soft vinyl as well as plastics, and don't react badly to the paint. They are a pain to work with though.. I've used them, but never mastered them. Quite gloppy and hard to remove from really textured figures.
My advice for masking: Silly Putty, worked into place with fingers or sculpting tools, depending on how precise you need to be. Easy on, easy off, totally reusable again and again. Works fantastically well.
Thanks for the advice! The fluid I bought was Humbrol Maskol.. I plan on painting some Cheestroyers tonight so I'll see how it reacts. I've had success with straight up blu-tac before but I'm looking for something more precise.
