The “knife in the back” is a fairly ubiquitous metaphor for betrayal. While I don’t give Frank any points for originality, I do think that labeling him as a rip off for sticking one in the back of one of his long time signature characters is certainly stretching the point.

I think you'll find what he does is more satyrical lampooning of popular culture than rip them off.

I first heard of Charles Krafft via one of Franks posts on a diff board.

Empty beer cans never made me so happy!

Krafft's work is amazing! The beer cans remind me of Jasper John's bronze cans.

That is some messed up stuff, and I can't even make myself read the whole article. To be honest I have never heard of Krafft until now, but I would have definitely thought twice if I saw some of these pieces. And as the author points out, the information is there for people willing to look.

I imagine a lot of galleries and owners are going to be re-evaluating their 'art' if they become aware of this too.

dammmmnnn haha. Even if is a rip, whats new with Kozik? I wonder sometimes if he even cares or thinks about him doing that.

But when Kozik does paint jobs on other artists platforms, thats when he is pretty awesome.

Just because the persons views have changed (or evolved) doesn't change the artistic statement (if any) of his earlier pieces. I could totally see people not wanting to exhibit his current pieces because of his statements, but I doubt he will have trouble displaying his work. Not that I'm agreeing with his views, he can believe whatever kookie nonsense that floats his u-boat.

thank you for taking a break from hyping the next deadbeet release to give us your opinion on something random from almost two years ago.

I would love to dissect this lunacy, but it really doesn't demand the effort. This statement is absurd.

Glad to have read that article...exposing people like this becomes more and more important as time marches on.

What a piece of shit. Plain and simple.

I have known Charles Kraft for over 2o years, and bought quite a few pieces from him and even did a show with him years ago and its really sad and weird what he has turned into....he started this weird shit like 1o years ago, and got really heavy with it about 6 years ago or so. That was the last time I saw him and talked to him, I just could not believe the shit he was saying. he had this whole rap about a 'portable holocaust museum on wheels' he was going to drag around or some shit. I told him he was fucked and havent spoken with him since.

It seems a thing that a certain 'school' of 80's creative types fell prey to as they aged and felt impotent or something...I wathced it happen to Boyd Rice and peter Sotos as well...it went from 'artistic irony' to outright racism and nazism. it's disgusting and sad.

Completely agree with this, it really turns a lot of his work into grim statements, rather than the satire one hoped for.

I dont even own a deadbeet, but everyone was throwing their two cents in about it. Other people were talking about this days before, these are boards where everyone is usually speaking their mind on a subject.

And are you not as well just talking about me, which has no relevance to the what the thread is about? Dont tell those 1200 posts are you just selling crap?

Picked up the Stranger & read that article this morning on the bus. I was really a big fan of Charles Krafft & was floored by the article. Too bad he turned out to be such a crazy douchebag.

I remember sending Krafft some emails inquiring where to find his work in Seattle before visiting the town in 2005.
At first he was super friendly/creepy inviting me to his studio and all - then I realized that my first name was misleading him to think I was a women,
so I said to him that I might just drop by when my GF would attend her colloquium and never heard back from him

WOW. Thanks for posting the link. I had no idea Kraft went down this path. It's super messed up and sad because the work from 10 years ago was so good.
