@toothaction - That is great to read and well-deserved, imho. I really enjoyed the film at the theatre. @Roger - Excellent review! You made some really good points in your write-up. I felt the film exceeded my expectations, and the brisk pace was quite engaging. I can't wait to see it again at home. I also really like the soundtrack -- a fun standalone listen: Eyes peeled for a US bluray/digital release...
I just saw this for the first time. I thought it was a brilliant update to the original. The shots of the flooding with the cars and boats floating through the streets were harrowing and really brought back the tragedy of the real life flooding from a few years ago. Also, the first time you see G's face, and it's this! Holy shit.
I have watched this movie so many times I've lost count. It's so farcical in the beginning, and when that first version of Godzilla appears it looks so silly and helpless that it's hard to take seriously. And then the creature evolves into something more angry-looking, and the movie mutates along with it, becoming deadly serious as Godzilla gets bigger and more dangerous. And the cacophony doesn't stop until the monorail station, where Kayoco discloses to Higuchi that the bomb is coming, and you get that sad silence as the camera pulls away... Love this movie. Glad you dug it, too.
