finally tracked this guy down, new sealed in bag, and was a little bummed when i saw that paint flaw (it haunts me). i want to clean it up, maybe remove the rest of the overspray on the patch. so my question is this... what is the best way to do so? what do I use? any help appreciated- thanks in advance.
I would want to see a larger picture to understand the scale of the crack. It it's small enough to be filled in by paint, then just daub some paint in with a tiny brush. If you're working with vinyl, I recommend Monster Kolor. If the gap is bigger and needs to be filled in, I would fill it in with Apoxie, a two-part epoxy clay, and then paint over it with the monster kolor.
its OB02... the guy in the middle patching is made a little tricky because of the GID. If i lay down too thick a coat it will show up as a dark speck while glowing. I was leaning towards paint removal, but not if it cant be done without damaging the fig. Is it possible to remove the rest?
So what are we looking at? Is it too much paint? Because in that photo it looks like a chip and from what your saying it's a crack that needs to be filled but then you say "paint removal". Are you trying to remove excess paint or fill in a chip in the paint. If it was like that in the bag then it looks like it's been dropped somewhere along the way or smacked up against something coming out of a vat. I don't think there's much you could do to that that won't show up when it's glowing if thats the main concern.
its just a small amount of missing paint. Just big enough to be noticeable. OB02 was painted freely but I like the look of the Obake on the right where the patch was painted more purposefully because of the flaw, I was going to remove the overspray around the patch to make it look more like the one on the right.
That's a crack...not missing paint. On gid there isn't anything you can really do, unless you fill it with gid paint. How much did you pay for the Obake?...cause if it really bothers you, I'll take it off your hands
If it's GID, then stick with the apoxy, but use krylon GID instead. Spray it into a little cup and use a brush to apply.
its a scratch in the white paint on the GID body, but I hear you guys- I'll let'em be, Paul McCartney style for the time being.

Honestly a ton of my toys have paint damage that have come like that out of the package. I used to be a "perfection with toys" person. Now I really don't mind. What did someone say? "It gives them character" something like that.
Ah...I see it now. I do agree with everyone else. I have toys with scuffs and even though some of them are easy fixes for me and my airbrush, I just leave them be.
it seems it is damage to the vinyl and not the paint so i would just hold onto it as is an just keep an eye out to upgrade if one pops again. messing with paint is one thing but messing wth vinyl is another.
this is what I thought at first but it's actually the paint that is scratched. It's starting to be kind of a cool image because some people see a scratch in the vinyl while other see a scratch in the paint. If the paint wasn't white, you'd notice that it was just the paint and not the vinyl. The way the light is hitting the surface makes it look like it has shadows...a bit of depth, when there is barely any depth. Pretty interesting.
So that's white overspray from the patch, onto the surrounding GID vinyl? Personally, I would just leave it be. But if it really bothers you, why not just tape off the patch/stitching as to not mess anything up within that boundary, and hit that tiny area of overspray with a q-tip of acetone?
