Wall Street?? Hahahahaha...there's still one more thing I painted that no one, except a few people, have seen. Unlike my friends, it is easy for me to hold pics back of toys I've painted ;).

Helpful tip: Never experiment with 2 new different types of pearlescent paint when you have a deadline to meet.
I'm not thrilled with the execution, but here it is-

According to meanmistert: If a Blobpus is severely injured, the higher functions mass (brains/guts) may be moved into a temporary life support suit. These Temp-skins provide protection for the vital organs until a new body regenerates. Temp-skins are also useful if the Blob has problems during molting. The extended probiscus helps Blobpus sense danger while in this vulnerable state.

Thanks,... at least I got it half right!

P.S. Blobpus is a big Bono fan, hence the tinted goggles. ;)

Oh, don't take me the wrong way, idea AND execution. I love the frosted look like some kind of suit instead of necessarily being 'alive' compared to the gut colors/

But honestly, I have no idea what happened w/ the contest.
I know the show got pushed up to the beginning of September because of scheduling issues w/ the venue or something.
So the contest deadline was also pushed up for the end of August.
    Logistic-wise, I don't know how that works.

I am very late to the party but I finally finished my custom as well.

The innards have been burned black (hello carbon footprint) and the inner eyes have been replaced with green gooey stuff from a silicon ball and since I couldn't see myself making sense of the stitches I removed them an repolished the vinyl. The outside shell has been burned a bit as well and painted with blue metallic color shift accents. Finished with high gloss for ultimative clearness. If you dare smack it two LEDs will light up (belly and brain).

idle- If you don't mind sharing... How did you repolish the vinyl after removing the stitches? Looks great.

  22. gatchabert

that's a lot of sanding to repolish the vinyl

Thank you everyone. I am very happy to hear that you dig the custom.

Well, basically it's just a job of sanding. Here's what I've done:

    1. Cut away the stitches and gaps at the eye lids with a sharp exacto.
    2. Using a relatively coarse sanding paper of 180 I blurred away the scary of the cuts.
    3. After that I used a succession of different sanding papers from fine (300) to really smooth (1200). I realize now I should have gone even higher because it would have made the polishing easier.
    4. For polishing I used a paste for chrome and car paint. It took me probably around 8 turns (I didn't count though) to get back to the original transparency of the vinyl.
    6. The rest is just your good ol' automotive paint high gloss coat.
