Label us that if it makes you feel better, but we're just collectors with discerning taste, sharing our opinions.

No matter what anyone does, there will be someone who doesn’t like it.
Hell, a photo of my frog taking a massive shit got more likes than my art on FB a few weeks ago. You just learn to live with it and not take it so personally.

Or run to Facebook and whine about 'Gatekeepers' on that nasty chat board where people dare to voice actual opinions ... instead of praising anything and everything.

I find August’s comment particularly humorous. Are people pretty opinionated? Of course. Sometimes overly? Perhaps. But many, many here have been collecting for YEARS, and still very much know what the hell they’re talkin’ about, American or otherwise, which I don’t even know why they found it necessary to point that out.

I dunno, I've been collecting these for almost 50 years? Your opinion is that it's 'ruined' and mine is that I painted it the way I liked to. I didn't run anywhere, I'm still here, I'm still painting them, and these are not unique items, but neat toys. Moog if you put on your top hat because you are a discerning collector of "high art" while not actually creating anything of your own, that's cool, but if you can't take somebody touching your precious figures because you supposedly know more than those who make things while you don't, then you are a gatekeeper. Get over yourself. Your so called critisism has no merit when there isn't anything constructive behind it, it's just a tantrum because it's something that you don't like because it challenges what you feel only you and a select few consider 'right'. If you don't like it, you are pefectly entitled to your opinion and ability to enshrine rubber Flintstone figures you bought for 50p at a boot sale, but if you don't like an artist telling you to fuck off with said opinion because it challenges your tunnel vision world view, then that's on you mate. :)

Tantrum? I'm simply taking the piss out of your shitty paint jobs. No emotion. No drama.

Its a "2", I can only see the top left and middle. The rest are a mystery to me.

He's fucking with you, folks. It looks like a color blindness test but there aren't actually any numbers or letters to be found.

Nope, just someone who doesn't make toys so shouldn't have an opinion on shitty painted toys apparently. I also 'enshrine' rubber Flintstone figures, whatever that means.

I knew I had arrived at SB when Greg Mishka paid that internet guy to mispronounce my handle and a bunch of others while telling us to eff-off. Felt seen for once ;)

as for the criticism of Doug’s unfortunately painted Godzilla (as some one that also makes shitty art that ends up in museums and galleries) I can only say that it must suck to feel so fragile when someone doesn’t like one or a few of your toys. fragile Bc he’s literally amplifying the comments himself.

Getting roasted here is a Badge of honor in my books. Wouldn’t be the punk DIY place I think of to me otherwise

You’re going to make crap far more often than you assume you are, Doug. You already do. It’s nice to know others are kind enough to tell you it’s a piece of crap, even if you’ve dumped all your metallic smuggled V-Color on it. Don’t think too much of it.
It’s just 50p or 600usd toys after all.
Shrines to our own comforts after all.

That's the thing though. What is the point of going and insulting SB somewhere else?

This place is fun and for the most part it's full of nice people taking the time to share thoughts and opinions with one another and they even take pictures of toys to share here or keep a vintage toy advert thread going for thousands of pages. There are also nice staff members taking the time to keep this place going. Especially this last year the reputation of SB being a mean place for mean people is simply not true at all. So when you go shit on this place somewhere else all you do is push the idea that SB sucks and no one should come here. That's shitty. Someone who has been here for 7 years with 1,000 plus posts should care about this place a little more than that. Half of a handful of people didn't like the paint you put on one toy. That is not a big deal. Certainly not worth making other people think this is an awful place. I have the hardcover of the book August Ragone wrote about Eiji Tsuburaya. It would have been ridiculously fun to see him on SB but now he thinks this place is fucking awful because you decided gatekeepers were shitting on you and needed to tell the world.

And for the record calling anyone here a gatekeeper is just completely fucking inaccurate.

A gatekeeper is a person who controls access to something, for example via a city gate or bouncer, or more abstractly, controls who is granted access to a category or status.

No one here controls anything or decides what "status" any toy person achieves. They just offer their opinions on what they see. By that logic anyone who reviews anything anywhere would be a gatekeeper. Oh you reviewed a movie on rotten tomatoes once? Gatekeeper! Oh you bought a stapler on amazon and left a review? Gatekeeper! Oh you called the number on the back of your shampoo bottle to tell them it didn't lather well so you couldn't reach climax? Gatekeeper!
