Well don't be too disheartened Doug, aside from the door vs. hinges issue, the Nornas was an absolute bear to refinish! I think that the bare pine, although it allowed for more options to customize the finish to your own decor (paint, stain, varnish, etc...), was ok if you were just going to prime and paint it, but it was very time consuming for stain + varnish, or just varnish. If those darn glass doors were more secure, I think I would've bought a few more. They are just not stable!

The shorter and linear (no legs flaring) fabrikor in dark blue is still a nice case for the price

If you can spend an extra $30, I do highly recommend the Ikea Milsbo

I bought one of these for my taller (standard size vintage toys) toys. Once you have it secured to the wall with the case braces (provided), it's very stable (the bottom of the legs come with "auto shims, there are adjustable disks under each leg, which allows you to level the case if your floor heights are uneven). It's a great size and holds lots of toys. The doors are heavy duty (relatively speaking!), all corner seams are sealed, the open foot print allows you to vacuum underneath, it's lockable, and is great for taller toys and/or risers. If you are handy with tools, you can add additional shelf supports and add additional glass shelves as well. The product description says it is designed to accommodate Ikea lighting options. The max shelf load is 11 lbs.

Oh yeah I dig the Fabrikors, I have 2 short ones and 2 tall ones haha. I just liked the idea of possibly having a few wall-mounted ones and the wood and glass combo was really good in my eyes. Thanks though!

Well my friend was certainly a busy bee today. During the summer, we visited TAP Plastic, and they had a For-Sale pile. Someone had abandoned a custom-ordered 4 ft x 6 ft acrylic window frame front. It was marked $250 as a remnant sale, and when I asked about it, the salesman kindly took another 50% off the sale price! He said that the person who ordered it paid $550 to have it made and adjusted, and still wasn't happy with it, so he just abandoned it after paying full price! I had been looking for a giant shadow box to frame my handmade Uglydolls , and wasn't sure where I was going to find one for a decent price. Needless to say, I snapped up the acrylic window. My friend custom built a frame to fit the window, so it's 5 inches deep (Uglydolls are quite plump :)), and built to open up as a huge box, with 3 heavy hinges and two brass latches. He just finished it this morning, and hung it on the wall. Here is the pic he snapped to surprise me :D

Super blurry pic, but here's what it looks like when you open the window front
    [IMG]
The yellow bookcase below, is what I was describing in a previous post. It was an old beat up but solid wood bookcase. We went to TAP Plastic to get acrylic frontal panes cut for each shelf. You can't really make out the front panes, but you can see the top hinges on each shelf compartment, as well as the magnetic pull (at the bottom). Those panes open from bottom to top. I stuffed in all the Toygraph Racers, but need to ask him to cut risers to fit the full length of each shelf (the ones shown here are short, because it was all I had on hand). Layout is in progress, not permanent, so it's looking pretty empty.... for now!

Inspired by @djkemp 's recent single-color shots of his minis, I tried out grouping my sofubi by color:

    ^^^Beautiful toys and great setup!

Finally got around to having custom wood risers (free!) cut for my Ikea Milbo case (see image above). Due to space constraints, my setup is more like the "five and dime toy store cram as much as you can" look. Not as clean and orderly as Rogers, but you can cram a lot of toys! Still a work in progress...

Using the case for mostly vintage, and some neo little guys to fill the front. I like the fact that the smaller "modern" kaiju adds a splash of bright colors too...

And little surprises for the unsuspecting, non-initiated, casual visitor to see

Very nice set-up, Grace. I like mine in a similar way; some shape but lots of little “lookums” sprinkled throughout and within. I would never get bored of your shelves here.

Ha! I finally found the Bandai Giant-size Cobraman hidden in a box at the back of a storage closet! He's quite tall and barely fits in the Milsbo (no riser needed for him). Playing with the Dormei Goji today too...

Oh! Pardon me! (Gojis are very polite)
That Dormei Goji takes up a LOT of space! So he's going to live on TOP of the case :)

Filled a new set of shelves today--after moving I had a few boxes of books still unopened, including one that I'd left sealed at my last place. Everything is out now, with a bit of space left up front for dolls. Sadly after already filling the available space to what I think is a comfortable density, I think I'll need yet another shelf set or display case exclusively for dolls. Goddammit.

Anyway, Spectrum Lab brothers together now, along with my Chairoi Brown guys and my partner's Haikyuu Nendoroid:

And a low-key spooky shelf just in time for Halloween. The adorable pair of ghosts in the pic were needle-felted by a friend of mine.

This thread is full of great display ideas.

I moved away from dedicated shelves (detolfs and others) and into just populating the empty nooks and cranies in the apt.

saw a photo of someone’s kitchen recently (maybe it was Moog’s?) and a light went up in my head about just putting them all over the place.

Also, great idea checking with local makers for shelves on sale. Hat tip to that one, Grace!

Oh thank you! :) I'll snap a photo of the yellow case and post soon, it's absolutely stuffed now! FYI, if you have nextdoor.com available in your neighborhood, it's a great website. You are basically connected with people in your neighborhood and nearby cities. Not only is it a good place to see what is happening in your area (useful for safety and crime news as it's happening), but a GREAT place to pick up furniture, cabinets, display cases, and all sorts of stuff people give away for free or sale. Visit the listings section, and you can view everything, or filter your view to just see free stuff. There are some amazing things for free (especially from people living in affluent neighborhoods). Happy hunting and please post pics of your toys running amok in the house

Love seeing everyone’s personal choices of how to display their collections. I’m personally always going back and forth with myself about cases vs wall mounted shelves. Personally I prefer everything to be pretty close to eye level when on display, and the lower levels on my display cases just don’t get as much love. Anyone else deal with this conflict? haha

I think it was @eckotyper that raised his shelves by putting multiple detolfs on a short and wide drawer/cabinet to see everything better

    Edit: something like this...

@Russblue11 I saw another collector with a similar setup in 2013. Had detolfs stacked on top of single tier Kallax shelves from Ikea. But it still left that single square at the bottom as a hard to see spot. Even still, looked cool as hell to see detolfs raised up like that.

Woah! Very nice . Having the detolfs grouped and raised, gives it a more solid look. Love seeing the setups and ideas, as well as the toys. Keep 'em coming! :D
p.s. don't forget to anchor those cases to the wall for safety. Especially if you live in an area with earthquakes! :dam:

Perpetual WIP. Shelves have the lead over display cases here. My main flaw is that I need to work out remote LED strips

They've made a new metal & glass display that I was looking at for $179:

Admittedly got bored with my case display and reconfigured the display between a case, wall mounted shelves and a cool book shelve I found at ikea. I’m happy with how it turned out.
