Hahahahahhahahahahahaha! Oh man it is so worth watching the Preds destroy the Ducks and watching Kesler, Getzlaf, and Perry cry. Especially that prick Kesler. Those three WILL NEVER have their names on the Cup! Bruins made Kesler cry in Vancouver now the Preds are going to make him cry again. Go home you fucking siss-bag!

Perry crying made me laugh. I think he is one of the biggest d-bags in the game and off ice. I actually kind of like Getzlaf. Bieksa showed what a poor sportsman he is.
Still think the Pens are going to win it but hoping I am wrong. People are saying if it is the Sens and Preds in the final, it will be one of the lowest watched games but I will be watching when I can. I think it will actually be a really exciting series.

Ratings be damned! Ottawa pulled it out last night. If there are hockey gods surely they will grant them a game 7 win on Thursday? I have a new earned respect for Ottawa who everyone seems to count out- but manages to get it done when it counts the most.

See I knew there was yet another level to my absolute loathing of the Leafs and the Habs. They are like the Cowboys or Yankees here in the states.

I feel for the Sens fans, read the article and it blows that the arena is so far out of the city (never knew that) and that ticket prices are high (seems the norm in todays NHL).

Interesting article. The youth of the team (not of its players) is a very good point: most of the Sens fans I know are Sens fans AND fans of another team (from before the Sens arrived).

Ah well. Moot point now. Hope Subban gets the cup!

Well, that was a BS game. Crosby wins Conn Smythe is also BS. Murray should have won that.

I could not agree more. No way Crosby is deserving of the Conn Smythe this year nor last. Malkin, as much as I hate him, led all scorers this post season! He doesn't get it? How about that rookie Guentzel who had the most goals? Fleury and Murray combined for 5 shutouts! Not deserving? No it's Crosby again wtf?

I hate the Pens and it's so obvious the league favors them and especially Crosby. He was too busy getting selfies taken to even come at first when he was announced as the winner.

I don't want to sound all conspiracy theorist but I'm really starting to think the NHL is a sham. They clearly wanted golden boy to win but even Nashville as the opponent seemed fishy. Nothing against their team - they played hard but the all-star game was in Nashville, Bridgestone owns the arena and does the Winter Classic, and you know the league wants these non traditional markets to become hotbeds and do all the stupid culture crossover shit ( country music please).

So one of the good things about living at my sisters this past year is that I finally have access to cable. I could get on xfinity and type in "boston bruins" and watch their games- for free. Not that it's been all that enjoyable but hey at least they made the playoffs last year. This season tons of new kids, was excited to start the season but then a week into it guess what? NESN does some deal where you can only watch games online through them! You have to live in the NESN broadcast area. Now unless the game is national tv or on NBCSN I can't watch it! I even tried the work around where I type in the opposing team on xfinity. Nope balcked out. I literally have to go back to illegal streams again. WTF do I have to just forget the team I love and pick another team? Well not yet- I'm doing the illegal stream for now. At least locally the Flyers are fun to watch.

WTH is going on with that Las Vegas team?!? I don't think anyone thought they'd start out with an 8-1-0 record with a 5 game win streak.

I've also avoided this thread. I just really isn't the same without Chris.
Did they ever find out what happened to Ray Emery? I haven't followed up on that.

Farewell to Patches. But hey, we got a wonderful bag of magic beans in return!

Watching Bergevin (and co.) gradually dismantle the team over the last few years is crushing as a fan. How long before we are fully dredging the bottom as a storied franchise? The Oilers at least squandered the gifts they were handed in their 'rebuild.' Montreal is purely in a one-way direction. Oh well, season ticket holders can save some money [not that those really exist anymore either, except as some abstract concept]. I'd say fans would initiate a Molson boycott, but who are we kidding, no one wants to drink that swill in any case.

Currently finding myself having the urge to watch some games, but am having issues actually finding some to watch. Gritty the mascot got me looking and then finally I feel like I gotta dive right in. However I feel like my current love of "America's Pastime" is making it difficult to follow the sport...Am I just dumb?

It's just a rubber puck and giant sticks, I may be overthinking it... :'(

Sad to report on the passing of another legend of the Montreal franchise, the Original Six, and the sport in general. Henri Richard has passed away at the age of 84, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. A 20-year veteran of the NHL, which is a feat in and of itself. The 'Pocket Rocket' made a name for himself with his dedication on and off of the ice, which is a lot to say for a guy whose big brother was Maurice. I once happen to see him as I was leaving the McGill metro station (he was generously donating his time for a dedication, as usual) and even just that chance encounter was enough that it remains memorable to me to this day. He surpassed even the performance of his slightly more famous brother by leading the league in assists, and reaching the 1000 point mark - ending his career after a whopping 1,046. With the way the game has changed over the years, and decades, we are not likely to see legends like this again; so it is sad when one of the few remaining leaves us. But he will certainly be remembered. RIP #16.

    This is a bummer indeed.

I haven't followed the game in ages. I think I was just so disgusted with the Kings waaaaay back in the early 90's that I swore off the game. I think this is the same reason why I pretty much wrote of the great game of basketball. The boot given to Shaq and keeping Kobe really pissed me off. I know ultimately it was the smart move on their part for a multitude of factors, but it just rubbed me wrong. Obviously I'm not ne of those super fans where my team can do no wrong.

I'll be at the Bruins home game against the Leafs coming up in a few weeks. Got tickets to the game as a gift for my fiance's bro and sis so we're all going. Should be fun.

So, while I think we all miss the distraction of professional sports and entertainment, I also think that people should appreciate these are definitely non-essential activities in life, and people's safety and health should come first (especially as how things in the US have been looking lately). Nevertheless, it seems that the NHL is on the way to resuming the path to play:

NHL, players' union reach tentative agreement for return to play

The things is, I have to ask myself why? Never mind the pandemic for a moment, but what is the goal of returning now? The plan would be to kick off play in August, and, using the [very complicated] new seeding bracket for the modified playoffs, award the Stanley Cup late in the fall. But why do it now? I mean, the logistics of summer icing, the current health risk, and the incredible 'late in the game' period we find ourselves in, I think it would seem obvious to anyone - not just chasing money that is - that the season has finished and any remainder is a write-off. So my question becomes, with all this in mind, then the major thing missing from the NHL's proposed plan for me is, what the heck is supposed to happen in the 2020-21 season? Wouldn't it just make a whole lot more sense to just start that season, per schedule (or even delayed), when it is safe to do so? This just makes no sense to me on so many levels, but if the business aspect is the only angle they care about then even that seems to be confuddled as they are impacting a whole season, rather than just the late stage of the last one and playoffs? This feels like a lose-lose no matter how you slice it, and yet they are touting this as a big 'win' (seemingly just because it is an agreement that the NHL and PA have finally been able to get together on). Seems like hogwash to me, and I hope players come to their senses and stop this arrangement. The fans aren't going to be in it now anyways, people have a lot of other stuff on their minds, much more important issues, and are not going to easily understand this new system they have set up now in any case. Plus, generally, summer is not a good time to organise hockey, especially when no fans will be at the games. This is a hard sell. Does anyone else actually get it? Strike the season I say, it's gone too long now to make it up, and certainly I would rather have a proper full season starting in the fall, when it is safe to do so, then have this careover where we end up with a hodgepodge stopgap that carries over into the next year.

I'll tell ya h'what. Having professional hockey back in TWO major Canadian cities is pretty awesome to me. I think it will be pretty 'straight forward' to pull off an expedited play off series, especially since the two cities will be acting as their own individual safety bubbles. Also, I would like to add that I am just NOW receiving a refund for my tickets i purchased back in November to see the Bruins take on the Leafs in Boston. What a pain in the rear end.

Also on a side note, I've made it a life goal to travel to Newfoundland and acquire a Newfoundland Growlers hockey jersey or other sort of merch... because that place is cool as beans.

As a non-Newfoundlander, and one of the few provinces I have not [yet] lived in, I can fully accede that this statement is correct and founded in fact. Newfoundland (and Labrador) rule and the people there get the full  from me.

I've only been to Quebec, Nova Scotia and PEI. I loved everything about Halifax and the surrounding area, but then again I'm just a huge fan of fishing villages and seaside towns. Also Newfoundland houses the first and only known settlement of vikings in North america, and as a history nerd I've deemed it a goal of mine to see it.

Song of the day, in honour of the great Dale Hawerchuk, who sadly passed away yesterday from cancer. :(

A great player, coach, and hall of famer. He'll be well remembered for his skill in a great era of the sport, and contributions on and off the ice for decades. RIP.

I am surprised that no one has posted this entire season - albeit it has been a different year. I am enjoying the new format though; selfishly, I am ecstatic to see more Canadian teams play each other in the modified groupings. Really excited for Montreal of course. I am so pleased to see them come up through the playoffs now, when so many would have discounted them. I think the entire playoffs have been shaping up to be interesting and very different than the traditional power teams. Hoping Montreal does well to take out Vegas, soon and let's see who they are going to face off with. Go Habs!

PS - the fact a post from Chris still tops this page kind of is making me smile while also being filled with sadness :(

Seeing the Bruins lose in the fashion that they did (ie. Just not showing up at all) was a little disheartening. That being said I am all aboard the Habs train. That dirty Vegas hit a couple games ago has me all in on the Canadiens.
