I knew that would show up eventually to get hated on here.

Personally, I love it. Reminds me of something out of Silent Hill.

While I understand how people hate on the horror aesthetic in the scene, I wish people would have a bit more wiggle room on that and stop dismissing it all as just another fugly toy.

Or we can perhaps create "the most boring toys you have ever seen" thread and fill it with the dozens of gorilla toys that seem to pop up on a bi-weekly basis

I'd argue that that fetus intestine thing isn't even a toy. There's nothing toyetic about it.

This is a one-off and definitely more statue-like

Totally. It looks like a hand painted kit or a one-off art piece. Nothing about it says sofubi, or even toy.

Why not, that sounds like a good idea. A companion thread to this one. Personally, I agree with you the dead baby in a bath is'nt boring - but it certainly is fugly as all fuck. Looks to me like a Goth's wet dream of a coffee table conversation starter.

im all for people pushing the boundaries in the medium and im glad its a one-off and not a run because to me its just straight up not a toy. the horror thing isnt new or disliked it just has to be done right.

Wasn’t hating on it. It is indeed a very ugly thing though, so I posted it here. That’s all..

And yes Kevin’s right, it’s certainly more of a statue than toy by any means. I almost wrote that in as well..

Agreed! There is still a whole lot that can be done IMO that can keep things fresh in that aspect.

I’m always one for the whole “less is more” style as well. Things can totally get a little hairy so to speak. Figuratively and very literally in some cases lol.

And again, this thing was very well done, and I can appreciate the time and thought that went into it. The water/sludge in the tub was a cool touch that looked actually wet. It did a very good job of grossing people out, which I believe were its intents.

So job well done to the artist, whom again seemed like a solid guy. I asked if it was okay to take photos before doing so btw.. He even gave me a couple of stickers after. :)

i definitely think that even the cutest toy given the right paint app and maybe a little additions like hair/tubes/doll eyes etc can be made super creepy. at work we really push the idea that less is more and in my personal art i do the same. sometimes when an artist does entirely too much its almost as if theyre trying to distract from something its lacking. or maybe they just dont know when to put their tools down...

^^^ So I'm going to just go out and say that no longer is a toy, per say, but a straight up piece of art work. It's not something you would ever play with, but instead display on a gallery pedestal surrounded by LED spot lamps. It's not my jam, but I can appreciate the amount of work that appears to have been put into it.

I'm not sure if we have ever discussed Kui Toy Studio (I think maybe once), but I continue to find his work to be some of the most offputting stuff out there. He seems to be doing well enough, but his toys are definitely not for me. And I think all his releases are north of $500 US.

They seem so hyper detailed. Not sure if they're hand sculpted or computer. This is his third release. He had a tall skinny guy and a short fat guy. Both historical generals. I don't hate the sculpts but I do hate the 500 dollar price tag right out of the gate.

Not my cup of tea either, but kudos to the guy for adding some actual Chinese flavor/folklore to his toys.

Agreed. Gross to my eyes but it's original, skilled work. And if someone's dedicatedly paying that high retail price, it's because they want those specific toys, and not whatever hypefubi a new maker is imitating.

They're hand-sculpted from the looks of it. I had to go back two years to find posts, but I see clay.
