I'm really glad M1 started up the Biollantes again. It's a great sculpt, but the standard colors didn't really grab me, for some reason. The 'M1 Black' (Astrozombies exclusive) and GID versions are fantastic. @wingnut0 Great selection of glowies. That Mogera isn't an easy one to find.
Translucent or marbled color ways with light spray paint details would be the way to go for Biollantes!
Well when it's done right it's amazing so i don't see why they should limit themselves. But I think it should only be done when they have enough confidence in the skill. It doesn't have to be vintage. It just has to look good in general as a color combination.
Nearly everything M1GO does is based on the aesthetics of vintage sofubi. I've never seen a vintage marbled figure.
My word Patrick, that is such an amazing shelf!! So many delicious toys there; the variety of sculpts and colours really shines. I think people generally know my Gargantuan obsession (pun fully intended), but I really have to highlight how much I am ogling that Bio-Goji. I missed this release, is it a recent one? My gosh, I just want to come over to your house for some Tang and toys. I have to concur. Yuji is a cornerstone and artist in his own right. What he has done not just for classic and new sculpts in a very amazing vintage vein, but for what he has delivered to this hobby - is just on a level which won't be matched by average toy artists. His skill, dedication, and delivery - in almost 30years of M1-Go now, is admirable and inspirational. That is pretty incredible when you consider M1 is one of the 'neo'/contemporary era companies. He doesn't need to follow any trends, he can set them. If anything more artists in this medium should be aiming to honour what he has done.
Thanks @ultrakaiju - yes the Goji is a recent one. It came in a set with the Biollante. I had to drastically trim the collection a while back, but lots of these recent releases (especially all of the gid) have made it quite difficult to make a clean break. Haha. @akum6n - I was surprised to see the Mogera pop up on yja last month. It took a bit of bidding, but it still didn't cost an arm and a leg in the end.
I love this thread. That Kure kure Takora trike really took me by surprise. Super cool release though. Im going to try to track one down myself.
Agreed, I am really happy to see this thread revived with posting activity (and photos!). Great toys everyone, Yuji's work never disappoints, and I am thrilled to see there are still a few folks out there (here) which continue to appreciate it.
Some new shrooms popped up recently! The guy on the left (next to the Lucky Bag version for comparison) has been previously mentioned in this thread on Page 45 and also Here – possibly a micro–run…? The unpainted shroom on the left (next to the standard unpainted green version for comparison) is a signed sample…
Another Matango! …and it turns out that this bronze shroom is on the same vinyl as the unpainted sample above Possibly a ‘ring toss prize’ from the same event as this M1 Hedorah, but not sure as it’s a different paint finish?? Saved auction pic/info way back in October 2009, it had the following translated description – M1 BEAMS Yuji Nishimura's Painted Space Exhibition Ring throwing bonanza held at the reception of M1 “Yuji Nishimura's Painted Universe” exhibition sponsored by BEAMS. It is a free gift Hedra (Bronze Ver).
Doug was originally posting that M1GO was going to be at Designer Con, along with Club Daikaiju. M1GO is also going to be at Monsterpalooza this weekend.
Going to have to move these guys to the toyroom eventually but I’m enjoying them just chilling in the lounge.
