Wild, Wild Country was pretty good. interesting I don't recall hearing of either of these things happening. although one happening as I was a child.. it seemed pretty important piece of us history, yet until Robert suggested it, I would of never known.

In a small VT town I used to live in, I knew a former member (yes, right up 'til the end) of the Bhagwan's cult (I found this out a few years into knowing him). He was a local radio host and highly skilled stonemason... he could be the most magical, kind, ideal elder hippie... and then you would hear about him being absolutely, grossly vicious and threatening to someone. I verbally tore this 70-something-yr-old-man a new one once at a party, the week after my wife had been on the receiving end of his horribleness. He was very apologetic and seemed deeply sad and troubled by his behavior. I really felt that some lasting damage was done to his personality by his experience in the cult.

Wow - I hate to admit it but the funko documentary really wasn't all that bad. The trailer seemed to focus on people blowing their loads over "pops" (fuck i hate using that word as a name for a line of toys) but a large chunk of the film covers their vintage style mascot wacky wobblers and the beginnings of the company, working out of a garage etc... not bad viewing at all! Makes me want to jump on ebay and grab some of the early mascot style wobblers!

@badteethcomics That’s what I’m sayin’. I loved the early cereal mascot toys, but as I mentioned earlier I don’t like bobble heads at all. Overall, though, it really is a pretty fun documentary.

    Anyone watch The Staircase?
If you haven't and plan to, I recommend going in with as little background info as possible.
Reminiscent of Making a Murderer (vice-versa as Staircase was its predecessor) in many ways. If you enjoyed that one, there's a good chance you will this. Hoping others give it a go... interested to hear your thoughts.

Watched first 2-3 eps and quit. Found that I didn't particularly care about the defendant one way or the other.

@---NT--- Fair enough. Despite the doc being heavily biased toward the defendant, I wasn't particularly enamored by Michael Peterson (or family) either. The perplexing nature of the incident & courtroom proceedings that followed were what kept my interest.

Similar story with 'MaM'. Didn't care for Steven Avery in the slightest, but the dubious tactics the "justice" system used to secure conviction made the series a compelling/disturbing watch.

@smurph I’m not enamored with Peterson or the family in any sort of sensational sense, but just that he’s an average man fighting his case. I’m at just about the tail end of this docuseries, and...series spoilers below...

Fuck the prosecution, the sketchy, shitty, “win - by - any - means” tactics, and that bullshit blood analysis douche bag. I hope that fucker is rotting in a cell for the lives he’s ruined with his fabrications.

@xSuicide Squadx "average" might be a stretch considering the money Peterson had to drop on his defense team, but I get what you're saying. On that note, found the contrast of his wealth (from the beginning to end) to be noteworthy.
Dude could act well for the cameras but couldn't shake the vibe that something was 'off' with him. Whether guilty or not, still stumped by the cause of his wife's death. Crazy as it sounds, there might be something to the "owl theory" (Google it if you haven't yet).

Having just run through Evil Genius, Staircase, Wild Wild Country (favorite by far) and The Jinx, I think the true crime doc kick is nearing its end...
Anyone have any other recommendations before I jump back into the standard fictional fare?

    American Vandal! ;)

Other's disagree, strongly, but I think Errol Morris' Wormwood is well worth your while.

@toothaction Thanks. Will save Wormwood for later, but Vandal sounds like a good segue back into the not-so-serious side of teevee.

Oh, I watched the Arrested season 4 "remix". Thought it was an improvement in some ways (a few of the jokes also seemed to land better) and made the ho-hum affair slightly more palatable.
Then there's S5... which crushed any lingering hope of the show's return to form. Sad to say but prob best AD be retired at this point, lest its once-stellar rep be tarnished any further

Article sums up the dismal affair well (storyline spoilers):

Posting this here to remind myself that Jeremy Saulnier’s new film, Hold the Dark, is debuting straight to Netflix on the 28th.

Do I have to tell you to skip the trailer? Skip the trailer!

    ^ You're only spiting yourself, maaaaaaan! ;)

Finally had a look at Murder Party a few months ago. Not very good and giant fun! I'll be sharing it with others some day.

Oh, just read that Saulnier directed a couple of eps from the new season of True Detective, too. Innerestin.

MP is okay for a first effort. From there to Blue Ruin though, wow! I saw that about TD, too.

American vandal season 2 is almost here.

If you have kids or just haven’t seen it, Black Panther is now available.

Atypical season 2 i think drops tonight.

This might have already come up, but The Good Place is a really fun watch. First few episodes are mostly corny scene-setting, but hold out.

100% agreed. Favorite NBC offering since Parks and Rec & The Office.
Fans of Michael Schur's work on those 2 are likely to enjoy this one as well.
If inclined to give it a shot, do yourself a favor and go in blind. Seriously. Way too many spoilers online.

I have the same opinion after 2 episodes. I'm gonna keep going, hopefully I won't be disappointed. I really like the retro/future setting. Not a cellphone in sight as far.
