What a great lot of stuff @scobot ! I am super glad that you got that excellent Mantisman. It really is such a fantastic colour variation on him, and he looks even more spectacular than I was expecting - practically brand new paint. Great little GGGnK set too. As for the Spectrefella, a definitely standout, even if not vintage. He is my favourite of the 'fake' versions, it was hard when they put these up for Japan-only sales. I can totally see him as a classic bootleg, brough into the modern sofubi. I am happy that you landed one; and, knowing your superior hunting skills, I am sure it was a great price. I really would like to track down the Brazillian comic now too. Or even just print off some panels to enjoy alongside this wacked out dude. Side note: isn't the packaging on these so strange? The vinyl baggy was a very odd touch, and I can imagine impacted the costs for producing him a fair bit. I don't know how many, if any, other AT had this, as this is the only one I have seen in person.
Thanks - Yeah the mantis man is one of the bandai ones and I only have like 3 or 4 Bandai villains so that is a treat! I have the first four AT spectremen (still bagged) and they all have the same bag and print on them... he is cool for sure
Got this Sanzen Missile firing Gakeen in the mail today. Nice with some crusty age. Needed some complex repair to the wind up disc launcher It was fully broken loose and parts were rattling around inside! Upon disassembly,(The top actually peels off like a skin!) One switch spring SHOT off into the air with the "Cap" on the end holding it on. luckily retrieved from a very cluttered yard! (SO lucky!) Mounted and Restored. It works again, and it's beautiful. I love the rivets and the overall sculpt. Time isn't good to these MFVs and the hard plastic can get brittle, but they are my all time favorites. ""
That is really lovely Paul, what a great robot! I am really happy you were able to find the spring action when it got away from you, and even better that you were actually able to get in there and repair his functionality. Like you, I have a soft spot for any missile-firing toy, and this fella is among the classiest of the bunch. Not even just the riveting, which is great, but also in the various folds, paneling, and especially on his head/spikes - you really see the concept imagined and thought out here. He is a beautiful toy, and even not in working order or missing some accessories I would consider a prize, so I can just imagine how phenomenal it is to have this guy join the family. Congratulations!
Same. Last one I need for the set of 3. Hikari Toy also produced a couple of blockier tin-toy-style robot vinyls, but I think these 3 are the most interesting. Anyone know of any others?
There is also Super X-1 and Shukeida which I have bagged. There is actually 5 total for the mid "Humanoid" type figs.
Sorry for the delay @deafmetal ! Sick kittees and human dental crowns are side tracking me from toys! Will try to post photos next week. Thanks for asking!
Happy mail day, bootleg Rainbowman. When I tried to take the mask off, his head came out. But everything is now in its place.
Thanks! I just looked those up and didn't realize they were by Hikari Toy when I saw them previously. Will have to look out for all 3.
I came home with a two new vintage pieces from G-Fest. First is a light silver blue Gigan on the left: Also picked up a yellow belly Varan:
@AWMGodzilla62 - Great pick with the light silver/blue Gigan. Your colorful trio of giant cyborg roosters looks excellent. I also like Varan siblings. I hope G-Fest was a lot of fun.
Thank you! Now I just need to get my hands on a Hawaiian Gigan. As for Varan, there's still a ton of other variants out there lol. G-Fest was fantastic! I love being there meeting up with old friends and making new ones! Got a ton of stuff that wasn't vintage, but still pretty cool. I may have to pop over to the modern forums here.
@AWMGodzilla62 - Nice haul, Alex! I also dream of the Hawaiian Gigan. I would love to attend G-Fest some day and meet some other Godzilla fans.
Man, that is a crazy haul, Alex. You sure had some major luck at G-Fest by the looks of things. Since this is the vintage thread, I'll keep it confined to those fellas, but great toys. The yellow-bellied Varan is a guy I'd love to track down too, after narrowly missing him a few times over the years. Great little fella you picked up there. And very nice to see the variations across those Gigans, too.
Fucking hell I need a G-Fest to come to Philadelphia! Vintage, M1 Trikes, and Bullmark Missle Firing Godzilla....I'd be all about those even if I could not afford them! Seeing them in the wild would be stimulating for sure.
I honestly think, at this point, we might as well start organising a SB-fest instead (even bi-annually)! I know I'd be down soon as I was able to. Open up the subject matter to all our toy loves, and bonus that we already know it's a good crowd.
