Ads are spam. Please report them when you see them.

@gatchabert oh I do. Every single one...
    "irrelevant" is the go-to reason.

@Beantime hid them all last time and it did seem to help (eventually the ads disappeared), but less optimistic about this current wave. IG has been ramping up to monetize itself for a long time... sadly think this is going to be the new norm now.

I was doing that for a while but then I realized, they're still going to try and figure out what is relevant to me based off of that. So, rather than Hide, I pick Report and tag it as It's spam.

@gatchabert Gave your initial post some thought and realized you're absolutely right. Now flagging all sponsored ads as spam (precisely what they are).

Not optimistic this action will make any bit of difference, but think it's the best way to express displeasure at the obnoxious commercialization IG has engaged in.

I completely understand it's a free service and a business needs to be profitable or else why bother? But truly believe this aggressive ad campaign is the wrong way to go about it. Said it before and will say it again, I'd happily pay the fee for an ad-free version of app... which seems to be the common way of generating revenue in this realm. Until IG provides that alternative, will keep on flagging this BS they keep dropping.

For serious, Glenn? Hard to believe they'd actually care to do that, especially if there's a chance it would affect one of their prime avenues for income. Ha, not that I'm calling you a lying no good fibber in burned pants, I just can't imagine them doing that for everyone if all users tagged the same. It'd kinda defeat this new strategy of theirs. Not that I really care, I just want IG to revert back to how it was at its best anyhow... But I'm down for some offensive tagging I guess. Doesn't hurt to try, and it's damn annoying. Every 2 - 4 posts is an ad.

i was tagging them as spam as well but ive switched the last couple days to "sexually offensive".
if they're going to waste my time, i figure i can waste someone else's by having them figure out what might possibly be offensive in every ad.

I tried instagram again for shits and giggles- and I hate it. So I'm going to just abandon the new account. First, since Facebook bought it (and I deleted my original account) it's completely a mobile app. Why? Since I'm a desktop user, and fucking hate mobile apps I had to download some ramme program just to upload pics. Either use that or trick my user agent. Lame. Really fucking lame.

Second, and most importantly, instagram decided arbitrarily that I'm some rogue mystery account and when checking back in tonight (I uploaded 3 pics) and wanted my phone number. As in give it to us or you can't get back in! I absolutely refuse to give it to them and even wrote that in the space, now my account is unaccessible.

So this sort of data collection gives me all I need to know about Facebook/Instagram and I'm going to stay off it. Experiment over. I'd like to get in to delete that account but whatever I routinely every day use a program to do a massive file search for anything remotely FB/Instagram related and get it off my computer. I hate them that much.

The fact is, in this day and age you need a cell phone with a decent amount of memory to be part of society. Do I hate it? Yes. I hate these soul sucking fuckship suck and fuck phones. But once I got a real phone, and downloaded the app, I realized I can instantly snap a pic, edit it to look great, and get a share url. No more Photobucket. Also almost all of the artists in this genre of art toys are posting more and more exclusively on IG. You just plain miss out if you're not on there. I hear you Lixx it's shitty but I haven't touched my laptop in ages. These phones. Ugh. Killing us all.

You pretty much can't date anymore without a carefully curated instagram stream. Otherwise people think you're a psycho if you aren't posting what you're eating.

Ahhh dating. I just assume anymore that my lot in life with dating is no one will ever get me, if it advances beyond a year it will be boring, and apparently the only ones who stick around are needy girls who enjoy the intense romance till reality sets in and we parts ways to avoid a lame domestication.

So I guess there is no level of retro dating with social media out there? Can't I just say been there done that, as I was an early adopter of social media early 2000's (Friendster, Myspace, boards, blogging, even instagram before it was bought). Do I really need to go back an tread old ground lol? Surely the newer hipsters have to have disdain for social media and have developed a way to meet people besides a carefully curated instagram stream:lol:

Did you know that there is a fullfillment curve? Yeah, it shows that income-wise the people who make $100,000 a year are happiest, and then the graph goes down. When we have enough plus a little is when we are happiest. The more you have the less happy you are. This new age has so many downfalls. For instance CDs. We used to buy albums because they were works of art. A composed journey. Now we just have EVERYTHING out there and it's too much to wrap our attention span around. We rapidly consume songs, binge entire Netflix series', buy a new phone every year, and look, we consume each other. Lixx described dating incredibly accurately. Why? These devices have stolen our lives......so that we can tap on a screen. I respect your decision Lixx, 100% true!!! if you don't have a phone it's hard to date!!!! She will be on the phone, you'll be pissed, she will tell you to get with it or you're out of style basically. It's sick and sad but true. My buddy had a gf and he has a flip phone. The phone was what broke them up. He wanted to live life, and she wanted to just take pictures of life. In the end he was called outdated and they parted ways. People care way more about their phones than they do about other people. Think I'm lying tell some one they lost a friend they are sad. Tell someone they lost their phone and it is the end of the world. They have us all. Infected.

    Tonight The Streets Are Ours
    Lyrics:
Do you know why you got feelings in your heart'
Don't let fear of feeling fool you
What you see sets you apart
And there's nothing here to bind you
It's no way for life to start

Do you know that tonight the streets are ours'
    Tonight the streets are ours
These lights in our hearts they tell no lies

Those people they got nothing in their souls
And they make our TVs blind us
From our vision and our goals
Oh, the trigger of time it tricks you
So you have no way to grow

But do you know that tonight the streets are ours'
    Tonight the streets are ours
These lights in our hearts they tell no lies

Lol I'm not a neo-luddite. I have an iPhone! But unlike most of the world I mainly use it as a text/ email device (and phonecalls when I have to, catching up with someone, or its important). I'm not into streaming on it, mobile apps etc. Dating is weird with me. I feel like I'm never single and keep picking bad girlfriends wishing I was single, then I'll get my wish and it will be followed with years of meeting absolutely no one. Which is cool also- you get shit done without interference and work on you (health, career, interests etc). I'm just not down with dating apps etc- although I would use Tinder if it didn't require Facebook because honestly sometimes you just need sex.

Yeah but ultimately if you choose a g/f or b/f make sure they're into you for the long haul. If they seem pre-occupied and too into social media now it will only be worse later. Choose life (lol).

For the last two months, I've disconnected off an on with my phone and instagram (still have an account and still post likes and hearts and sincere comments) but there is something gratifying with not being attached to it.
I don't have facebook, never had myspace...etc but have found it to be pretty fucking amazing to just go about my day without it.

I think instagram is a phenomenal tool for marketing but I'm pretty low key in everything I do. I don't have an interest in taking pictures of myself, and really could care less if random people around the world 'like' me.
If anything it makes me what to go back in a time machine and live in the fucking 80's. Great movies, no technology, etc. My kid is reading Calvin and Hobbs and I told him that if that cartoon was created today....Calvin would have had an iPhone and sadly stayed more indoors.

This day and age is so tacky. I'm saying, there was so much kitsch and love in: making mix tapes, waiting for your weekly episode, riding bikes everywhere, Living life and coming home to check your machine for messages, arcades, etc..

I really blame Apple. They have made it seem like you're really not modern if you don't have their stuff. Started with iPods and where are they? In your junk drawer. They sell you your own soul and we keep buying it. Over and over again. They prey on schools and now every kid in St Paul has an iPad. I can't compete as a teacher. The kids are addicted and we can't stop it. Per contract with Apple we just keep getting new ones. No opt out policy!!!! We know what enough is. We just allow them to sell us more than enough. We just needed a log to keep the fire going, but they walked us deep into the woods saying "but look at all of THIS wood!" Thing is they abandoned us out here. We are lost in the forest and can't get out. Plenty of logs though. Logphone i7
