i think he has like a resin severed hand monster? not too familiar with him or his work but im just really not into the whole gross-out 80's 90's thing or whatever that style would be called. neo-kaiju that look like they could be featured in a film with classic kaiju is what gets me going lol

I like that Nate made it. I don't think he's taking the criticismsto heart, as far as them being negative, but just having fun with the overly expressed opinions some people have. If making this poster with the quotes on it is somehow viewed as bad, then the quotes it derived from should be viewed even worse, for he wouldn't even have 'em if people didn't say it. I think it's funny as hell, and makes for an awesome marketing post. Not only did this character come from Nate's mind, it also came from preexisting paintings he'd done of the Stomak as well. I can't really classify this one as anything, other than "Nate".

i cant really say much because i dont know the dude but id hope he wasnt taking it to heart and just made things he likes. but without knowing any better it looks like bad style ya know? hopefully its more of a making light of the feedback versus petty butthurt-ness haha. id rather that toy exist than some regurgitated cash-grab sculpt. speaking only as a consumer i guess

Nah, I totally get you, @MoonspellxRites. I know Nate, and he doesn't take stuff like that to heart at all. To him, it's constructive criticism, but not insulting. So he doesn't get mad. His poster reminds me of the Twitching Tongues longsleeve that had a bunch of shit talking comments and posts all over the back of the shirt.

I like the poster and Nate's response, but to be that guy, I have to say that the comments hardly reflect any 'constructive' criticism. People shittalk, and most of it is all out of good nature and fun, without any malice behind it, heck that is probably 80% of this board, but really, this whole thing [poster] is only possible because of such brandish comments, which really aren't offering a response other than 'it's not for me.' And that's perfectly fine for me, but you also couldn't really print a t-shirt with "should have a bit more detail sculpting in the arms, bring down the length and proportion of the legs to match the torso," etc.

Oh probably Manny. Heck, we could probably put out a whole clothing line with some of the best quotes from this board. :)

    side note-
i like lurking this thread because the word fugly is in the title so nothing here seems straight up malicious or hateful. for personal projects i go out of my way to contact people who's opinions i value and seek their criticism. so i hope that none of these guys that are getting teased take it to heart. there have been plenty of crybabies that just up and quit and throw all sorts of tantrums because a small group of collectors on a forum in an obscure corner of the internet dont like their lil creation

^ This is it exactly, Manny, thank you. I mean, we come here for fun times to talk about vinyl dollies; if anyone takes this over-seriously, well that is on them. Sure, we share some pretty fugly toys, and people can all get some laughs (and really, I think we all have seen some doozies through the years), but rarely is the intent spiteful or anything. And if anything, this thread has really brought to life, at least for open discussion, how wide a range of tastes there are among the community. For anything that is shared here as being 'atrocious' we've seen a few positive reactions towards it, so that is something. I support embracing that diversity, I might laugh at some, roll my eyes at others, but simple truth is everyone's tastes are different, and this hobby such as it is encompasses it all. Yeah, I am personally tired of some design trends in recent years, and probably I think a few toys out there had no business being made, but stuff continues selling, often for ridiculous money, so I accept I could always be in the wrong. Bring on more toys and creativity. Like any stroll through a gallery/museum, you might end up seeing a lotta stuff you would categorise as 'shit' but might find yourself really taken aback or struck by the beauty of a piece; and someone else might call that masterpiece trash.

All of this is to say, toymakers, especially independent relative unknowns, should not take any extreme criticism overly to heart. If they do, they're likely in it for the wrong reasons (not being a creative being principle among them). This is what makes Nate's response to the bombastic comments fun and appropriate. Take the criticism with a wink and and smile, (listen to anything valid, as you wish), and why not give back a little deserved ribbing while you are at it?

That poster is hilarious asf! Just like he meant it to be! Haha I'm dying over here! I don't think there was anything to it other than the reaction I had which was to laugh. Makes me respect the guy actually.

I still don't like the toy, still would never want one.
But props to him for having a good sense of humor about it, and not getting either pissed off or devastated about the criticism. Not everyone will like your stuff, especially if it's a niche sort of "gross out" toy... it's a fact of life. Putting aside your ego and laughing about it always is the best response.

I mean everything I say about Greg Mishka, just an fyi. Fuck that guy. Other than that, I'm just pointing out toys that I find to be unappealing.

I'm this close of starting the UTOD (ugly toy of the day) thread and bring back the negativity where it should belongs ! Mhuhahahaha

Actually its not that bad. The toy is pretty cool. I cant really justify the prices of his stuff sometimes but they guy is really awesome to talk to so im not going to say really anything bad about it.

Okay I really like this guy, and do like this sculpt, he has a couple of different heads. But I have to agree this colorway threw me off. It's pretty out there. But yeah Leo is rad and I wouldn't kick it out of bed. Oh wait, yep I would...

    Edit:

    ^This one I kind of liked, but it's pretty wild too! Looks like not two heads but two sides of the same head. {?}

I think so, I got a piece from @Johnny Black that I really love and his stuff is so cool in hand, I don't know a ton about him but got on his ig. Like you say though, on this toy there is some new texture going on in every section of the body and the head is just an acid trip. It's wild and I like that about it. Those creepy ass earthworm arms are rad to me.

Are these what you were referring to?

I think you might want to look again. I believe its probably a male dressed in female clothing. Japan is fucking weird like that. You gotta remember its from the same country that made this

I have an unpainted set of those 3.
They look great, not into the painted versions released so far.

Same goes for S7 WingKong, love all the unpainted. Don't care for any of the painted so far.

I think I feel this way because they look like old time promotional advertising mascots not just dolls.

Leo is pretty wild when it comes to painting. Considering he is (or was ?) colour consultant for Medicom, I'm pretty sure he expresses his own personal style when it comes to his toys. Thing he could not do with the regular Medicom catalogue.

It certainly looks too much at first sight, but you enventualy find some kind of scheme in it, the accumulation of colors can be paralleled with the accumulation of overcharged and discordant features of the sculpt.

He certainly is not one of those latest trendy sofubi creators that only go the way of the tasteless, shocking and outrageous only to be noticed and talked about.

I won't say this is fugly, but it's definitely one I just don't at all get. Only discernible traits I can see is a gun turret and a massive dick. I believe it's called the Bull Assassin?
