I was one of those enthusiastic followers! Personally I think that is a high price for such a majorly defective "polio leg" as Chris puts it! :) Other than that, it's a beautiful toy, with both gloves! @ultrakaiju , would you mind posting that auction in the Tiger 7 thread? I'd love to see a running "history" of Tiger 7 auctions..

I thought this was an interesting auction as well, worth sharing here. I love this model kit, not that I need any more things to collect, and I kind of knew it would have gotten a bit more attention if only from the recent surge in in interest brought on by the HS connection, but wow, was not expecting that. Motorized plastic model of the first/green version of 'Black Ace' ( ブラック・エース) from Midori Shokai.

It is one heck of crazy good robot, and an amazing toy, in fine condition with all the inserts, but man, that is also an equally hefty price tag. I'll take a 'ruined' built one any day.

Rare Kikaider. No copyright. Poppy remodeled human being.Kikaider.
    Went for: 63,000 yen
Personally what I like best about the auction is that bootleg Kikaider, I only remember seeing about three still in its packaging.

'71 Marusan giant kaiju variant went for 361K JPY:

I wanted this one quite a lot, but the price went way too high for me right now. Gorgeous colors on both the vinyl and the paint sprays:

I would imagine after a nice cleaning it would look nothing short of spectacular. Other than the thick layers of dirt/dust, the figure seems to be in amazing condition. After seeing all these photos, this one is starting to feel like a new grail to chase. I have seen the character described as both King Godzilla or King Godras (from Tederos?). Does anybody have additional info?

A little more info on this if anyone still cares. Grace sent me the auction. Turns out no one actually won this. Looks like the seller raised the min bid to 350000000. It probably wasnt getting the bids he wanted. The highest real bid was 36,600.

Just that hes incredible rare. Ive only seen two for sale. You probably wont see another one for years. One from a while back with a broken leg went for like 35k jp.

Just to clarify, it's that color scheme on yellow/orange vinyl that is rare. There is another brown version that is much more common (although rarely found in good condition).

@XVivaHateX , thank you for the research!:thumbsup::thumbsup: And thanks to @deafmetal for the auction linkola! :D I knew something was fishy. Odd that the auction at first glance, looks like the toy was sold! :? Hate to say it, but it feeds into some of my suspicions that there are shenanigans out there! Be careful people!

@XVivaHateX - Thank you for the auction info. I was also curious about what happened. I would much rather see the seller cancel the auction outright than pull a stunt like that. That said, canceled bids really confuse me as well.

Forgot to post this one -- a cute pair of pachi kaiju sold for 16,800 JPY:

Any info on these two? The price went much higher than I was expecting.

@Alebrije - Is this the piece that sparked your question in the outdoor thread?

The seller is saying that he doesn't think it's vintage, and it does not smell like old vinyl. I would guess that it's probably a repainted 1990's Bandai reissue. I have seen a few MechaG repaints before, including a similar one from a year or two ago that sold for around ~4,000 JPY. I have also heard that somebody was repainting a lot of the Bandai Bullmark reissues back in the 90's to look similar to the vintage figures, so there are definitely some out there in circulation. I believe the MechaG is one of the harder ones to tell apart since the engravings are almost identical, and the vinyl color is just a slightly different shade of gray. Be careful out there... I am expecting the winner of this auction to end up disappointed.

@deafmetal yes Mark, thank you for all the information! I was really tempted by this auction but I am very ignorant on the subject and I also had my doubts for what the seller mentioned in the auction. As I was not completely sure that it was the original, I had a price limit by which I could take the risk, I only hope that the winner does not take a disappointment.

    OOHH! Yeah...very likely a fake.

There was another huge rush of "customs" maybe five years ago now. They were clearly labeled, so technically it was allowed...but once those figures get out in the wild...

One very special auction that was nearest and dearest to my heart, which @chimply.kaiju could well sympathize with--triple Cisco Booskas!:shock::shock: The ending price of 15500 was pretty good (at least I think so!). Alas, I could not bid on these trios of cutie cute heart breakers, for a promise...

I saw that auction but didn't follow it to the end. I was wondering how much it was going to end for.

I was quite surprised to see it end so cheaply too Grace. I would have been sorely tempted to try for it, and welcome a split with you, had we had a little different circumstances. Heck, we could have gotten Anthony in on this mix, and we'd all come away with some nice joy for a little bit of a bargain, relatively. Next time maybe!

@Alebrije - I found this auction to be both fascinating and frustrating. It certainly looks like an odd-colored Maruan gojira, and I would say it looks more light green than blue/green, but how do we know for sure it's not just odd lighting or a digital camera filter altering the color? The paint spray looks to be the typical silver paint, but it also looks very light and washed out in the photo.

I really didn't know what to make of this piece, and I tried looking at the auction on a few different computer monitors to see if the color looked any different. On a few angles of viewing, it looks a bit blue/green. I offered up a few bids out of general interest, but the price went too high for what I felt was a bit of a risk. I have picked up a few different gojiras that ended up being more blue or green than I expected from the auction photos. I don't know what it is about the smartphones or digital cameras that people use in Japan or on Mandarake, but some of the photos are just terrible and really skew the colors. I would be very interested in seeing better photos of this piece, as it would be the first light green gojira I have seen with the basic silver sprays. I'm guessing it's just a standard blue/green vinyl though. :)

The actual model looks really really different, the boxart is way better than what is inside. I have a built up one that has some minor damages but it looks very cheap compared to the boxart. I paid $50 for mine and don't think it is worth that.

I imagine the mint specimen in that auction had more to do with the box and condition and not as much to do with HXS but maybe it did.

I have been after the vintage pollution monsters and Baruden seijin kits for about a decade, I would only want boxed ones since the graphics are so great.

Fortunately not many folks care about those kits but even so they rarely surface at all.

Well, overall, it was a banner day for vintage Marusan kaiju, especially the giant monsters. I'm almost at a loss for words at these auctions, but I will at least post the photos for now. Beautiful, just stunningly beautiful....

My mind is racing regarding what possible supercollector or family kept these all in such great condition over the years. I would pay money just to hear the story of where these all came from.

Those are some incredible auctions, Mark. Of course the Marusan giants are staggering to see, like you said, I can only imagine the story behind them (and the lucky person to soon be having both of those together). The one thing that I was really wondering about in that second-to-last group auction of midsize figures was the mini Ultraseven. I love me some U7s (of course) and that fella is really intriguing. I can't really identify the sculpt, as his blown up head gives him almost SD proportions. I am definitely going to have to do some vintage digging to unearth some more info on him. It is also extremely odd to see the two mid/standard sized guys together too. Ah, so many questions. But an incredible lot of middle size Bullmarks it is hard to chase down even by themselves. That is seriously one incredible grouping, I am not surprised it went so high.

Trust it's alright to post a few more model kit auctions. I love the box artwork on these old kits, and I feel they are worth their weight in gold. I believe there were some similar kits posted much earlier in this thread (crawling undead hand, etc.). I really wanted the skull kit, but had to let it pass me by:

Fuuudge! Yeah, those are so amazing. Not the first time I have drooled over them, and I think each of them have been posted here before too, either in connection to model discussions or even just the connection to the TE pachi kaiju, in the case of the latter ones. I have to agree with you Mark, I have no model skills, but I have always been obsessed over the incredible artwork on these boxes, especially the pulpy sci-fi and horror stuff. It really is such amazing stuff, timeless and always appealing to me. I bought several manga books from the horror genre for cover art alone. Those are some pricey kits just to admire, but I'd happily buy one of those incredible Japanese art/photography books that compiles these.
