Steve - Good point about the Mandarake listing. Is it generally frowned upon to post anything that is still listed for sale on that site? I understand live YJA auctions, but aging listings on Mandarake are a gray area to me. I have seen differences of opinion on this topic on other forums, even for things like "buy-it-now" ebay listings.

@Michael Beverage - I was wondering if it's an error in the final price. What would you expect this rare Gomora to sell for?

I'm certainly no expert on vintage, but I would expect you'd need to drop around three zeros off that purchase price before you'd approach something resembling reality!

Yeah, I would stay away from posting anything currently listed for sale in any regards as a general rule, e.g. auctions, retail shops, personal marketplace sites, etc. Just a good rule of thumb, as people want to give everyone a fair shake at 'discovery.' Some people even don't like other posting about release info, or actual sale direct from manufacturer, but that is another argument and neither here nor there. As I said, I think you're good in this case, and wouldn't worry too much. If someone wants to take issue with it, that's fine too; you can take it down, and we can discuss the finer points of thousand dollar toys.

I wonder if this is the highest auction end (BS or not) that we have seen posted here? Got to be pretty darned close.

Back to Nessie, is there some kind of motorized Loch Ness monster scene in Japan?

Well I do know of at least another nice Nessie diving toy, one that does some fully submersible swimming. If there is a secret society, and someone here knows of it, please to tell via PM the secret handshake.

After seeing Daniel's write up (an excellent and informative one!), I think I'll have to add a Loch Ness to my list. It's a shame I couldn't adopt the Mandarake one :(. That Gomora auction is unbelievable. I sorta wonder if there was a bidding war going on, and then at some point the opposing sides just kept bidding to spite the other. I highly doubt if someone is going to shell out $3 million for a piece of plastic . I mean toy wonder does have it's limits!:roll::roll: Use to be the auctions were cheaper than the webstores, not so any more!

p.s. if anyone has a motorized Nessie and is willing to give it a whirl, I would love to see a video of the cutie pie in action!

p.p.s. actually the giant sized re-issued "KS" version with the red tower is a nice substitute. Not vintage, but still quite nice :D (Chris has taught me not to poo poo reissues!)

I have been meaning to post this one for a while, but kept forgetting, so might as well do it now, before the images are whisked away. A really lovely Robot Detective K sparker toy by Masudaya. It doesn't say anything about his functionality (or not), only that he was kept stored away in a warehouse. But even if not, he is in really nice condition, and frankly, is just an awesome toy. The clear sparker head works especially well on his 'cyborg' style features, possibly even better than most other characters. And I just love the blue outfit, and all that detailing. I probably am saying this about most toys I share here, but sure enough, a lovely looking toy. Not too many of these come up for sale, so I don't have a lot of reference, but seems like a fair price given the relative scarceness of the sparkers.

A couple here for those Daikyo fans like myself. The Diatryma is a personal favourite, probably the best for me from the entire line. This one has some fair paint wear to his blue accents, but still is comparatively much cheaper for it compared to the last ones that just recently sold in January at 45,200円 and 30,500円, respectively. It depends on how you feel about condition, of course. For me, had I the funds on hand, would have happily adopted this bird.

And the same seller had a very nice lot of Daikyo monsters. Some of them had some unfortunate damage (outside of the missing tail though, nothing overly serious), but I think, when you consider that at least one of them is BNIB and has that header with such amazing artwork, I don't understand why this ended so low. I guess each of the figures by themselves isn't rare or anything, so purists might not like any of the junked ones, but heck, even if you just see them as a bonus to big Mr. Dino, I see the price as being fully justified. Anyhow there it is. Such a wonderful dino party.

@ultrakaiju I was also following these auctions Steve, I think the two went for a reasonable price. I am also in love with that Diatryma, although there are some good reproductions of it, I think I will wait for the vintage to come. Do not worry Steve I feel that the vinyl Gods have reserved a special one for both of us.:D

@ultrakaiju - Steve, I was also watching the lot of Daikyo kaiju/dinos, and thought about offering up a bid. The original header looks great! I thought the lot was going to sell for a much higher price. Anybody else infatuated with original header cards? I am on a quest to land the original Marusan/Bullmark/Popy Toho kaiju cards, and I regret passing on a few of them recently, including that Bullmark King Ghidorah with header from a few months back.

Also, it was very cool to see an original Bullmark mid-size egg and Twin Tail figure listed at Mandarake today:

Yeah, it was a real treat to see the original egg pop up for sale Mark, let alone with all the packaging goodies. A very fine example. I often wonder if, looking at the design on the eggs, they hadn't originally planned to have them open on the 'crack', but during test/prototype stages found it just didn't work well, or was too hard to produce. Might not be at all, just a design feature they added to the sculpt, I am just speculating.

Mark, head on over to this thread if you want to indulge a little. I am a huge fan of the vintage header artwork, and could collect them all on their own even if the toys did nothing for me. I'd still love to do some interesting display with them, though the actual amount of vintage paper I have is barely anything.

Super-extra-large about 62cm unspecified Kikaider Soft
50,000 yen, this was the starting price and only had one bet.
An apology if it is not a vintage figure, I really do not know the seller does not specify it.

fun to see this go for not a whole lot of money, saw a few throughout my trip in varying condition, with and without cape, for upwards of 200$ . ill be happy when this ogon bat shows up on my doorstep :)

and its always entertaining to see when these pop up MIB, the header art alone is awesome, and the toys will always be perfect to me.

I'm still dwelling on this auction. Just wondering in my own curmudgeonly way, how common is shill bidding on JYA? Does anyone have an account on JYA? I'm just curious to know the bidding history of this toy. Were there a lot of potential buyers with very low feedback/buying histories? Were they recently registered users? Were there just a select few bidding? I still find it hard to believe, that someone would pay so much for this toy!  Sorry for "stirring the pot", but I am curious!

p.s. ^^^ Vintage Nitto Yokai are so weird and wild!

I have my own account. Post the link and ill look. You cant get all that much info from the history though. The actual user names are masked, and you cant look at bidders buying history. All you see is W**SD*, their feedback rating, and their bid. Hard to say how common shill bidding is. I sometimes see items show up for sale again after auctions end on the high side. Some unsuccessful shilling maybe.

@deafmetal , can you please message me or @XVivaHateX the link to the Gomora auction? Thank you! :D
    ^^^Thank you Jon!
p.s. if the same toy shows up for auction again, I'd be very surprised!

I'm surprised to see the Diatryma selling for those prices. Maybe prices are going up.

The second lot actually doesn't contain any Daikyo figures. The front 3 are made by Miura Toy. The back 2 are unmarked; sometimes people will attribute them to Miura Toy as well, but I haven't seen anything to support that. That's actually a fairly hefty price for the lot given the poor condition of the loose 4; the bagged one shouldn't go for more than 10,000 yen or so.

Because of the size of the figure is not so unreasonable the price, in that price range are the m1 Tetsuji-28 and the Ultraman Bear model, well Giant Ultraman even more expensive.

That giant Kikaider is awesome. Does anyone know more about it - like who makes it? I've never seen one before - it seems to be the approximate scale of the giant U.S. Toys Ultraman figures from many years back but I've never seen info suggesting U.S. Toys made a Kikaider too.

That second excellent Marusan lot from a week or two ago went back up for auction and sold 108K JPY less than the first listing:

I saw that too, an odd one. You spend so much on an auction, kind of seems like you don't go back on it, or get to that point even without being certain. I wonder what kind of penalties YJA has for this sort of thing.

@ultrakaiju - Perhaps they missed the "pickup only" requirement for the auction. That immediately caught my eye, but I could see somebody failing to read the fine print.

Ah, I totally did not see that Mark, thanks for point it out. I wonder if that was for insurance purposes maybe, both for guaranteeing accurate delivery of such a high value item, as well as receipt of payment.

I know a group of avid SBers were following this guy. And a mighty fine-looking lad he is too. Fair enough, he has a bit of a lean, and suffers from the little bit of ageing discolouration on his boots you can sometimes see on the Tiger7s, but heck, he remains glorious for all that. Complete with lovely luscious red handsocks. Really nice paint on this one, little wear and only a couple places of marks or transfer. I know the off-stance bothers some, rightfully, but I think it gives him a little unique character, especially with that little head title. And anyways, I would be so thrilled to have him in my home with any flaws. But, broke is broke, can't do much about it, and even if not, I think he did climb fairly high there at the end given his moderate condition issues. (Not that these kittehs aren't worth it, mind.) I would definitely be willing to sacrifice a good pile of my toys, and throw in an organ or two, to make this happen.

I just got to save lots of pics from this beautiful fella.

I am pretty sure Chris said this before, but this character seems like such a great candidate for Medicom to do a proper, high-end repro of. Of course I am all for making it different from the original Bullmark (a think a sizing up to say just over 30cm would be pretty phenomenal in fact); but really, I would just be so happy to have a Tiger in with my heroes. Done right, I have no hesitation saying it would hugely popular.
