Im sure there have been plenty of times the original toy could have been updated to look better but ppl just haven't taken advantage of it. I honestly don't care if its original or not. You don't like it and thats fine. I honestly prefer this one over that vintage one ANY day of the week.

Its good enough on its own to display next to any Japanese toy to be honest. So there is no shame in speaking your mind.

i thought the inspiration for their ape toy was the new kong movie, either way i need to get my hands on one of those two headed ones.

I think the inspiration for anything these guys make has seemed to be "that existing toy always sells out for a high price.. let's make our own rip-off version"

A fully revamped version of an old bullmark figure? (Gomora) Is that a hype figure that "sells out for a high price" or how about Mecha Kong? Not very hyped either or am I mistaken.

What ape toy are you claiming was bitten? There are dozens.

How about the fact that several other companies Japanese or otherwise do the exact same thing even arguably more blatantly.

I thought you'd have a more nuanced or informed view on the subject, I guess I was mistaken.

If skullbrain were the USA we are seeing who would be wearing the red "make skullbrain great again" hats.

I'm in love with the proportions and size! The spikes sticking out are a badass touch IMO.

the proportions are great, i feel getting proportions right and making it look good on any two headed toy is one of the harder things to nail, *cough mishka cough*

That's one figure among several hype-driven rip-offs of Bemon/HxS that these have produced. May not be hyped, still a blatant rip-off of a fairly popular and recognizable (ie $$$) Ultraman character..

I think it's pretty obvious they ripped off Mecha Gorilla Ju - the feet, the power nozzle/exhaust thing, the copious amount of rivets. The only similarity I see to Mecha Kong are the shoulder pad/cascading joint things..

Got any examples for us? Please don't say Target Earth.. these guys aren't even in the same league.

Can we make a new rule for the forums? No Trump talk or anything relating to Trump, including comments about "Make ..... Great Again" hat slogans.

Both of those are inspired by Hirota Saigansho's gorillas. Planetxasia gets all of their inspiration from existing toys (however you want to look at that). Not necessarily recent or hyped toys (although mostly), but yeah, all of their toys are based off of toys that they like (all from previously existing sofvi toys so far).

@topher , you know this. It's not a secret. What changed between now and when you seemed to get it at the beginning of this thread? I don't understand why you're acting so defensive on this topic. If you really like the toy, okay, like what you will, but don't try to spin the facts. If you want to support em, just be honest about why you like it. But you should also clearly understand why it would rub people the wrong way that this is pxa's practice, instead of saying things like, "... I know change can be scary Chimmy, hang in there." What does that mean? You referenced Trump with the make America great again hats, but tell me that remark isn't straight up Kellyanne Conway...

If you really haven't grasped the reason for the upset, What makes this so bad is that it's the Same media; they're not basing their toy designs off of song lyrics for example . It's no different than, if you wrote a song, someone took it, barely reworked it so it was still quite noticeably originally yours, and then their version became a hit and what they were known for, asking for even more money than the original artist as well. At least Joss Stone had some originals (can't believe I'm defending Joss Stone :D ), cause they don't only do this once, but it's their m.o. I can't understand why you would like that, but okay, perhaps you just like their revamp better.

To quote @JoeMan a page or 2 back , "How many times have we seen a king ju on Mandarake and said to ourselves, for that price I could just make my own. Well here are two guys who said that to themselves, and acted on it...[/QUOTE]

If it's the toy that just gets you going, I get that, but please quit lying on here about their practices to new people inquiring about the brand. You try to spin it ANY time someone mentions their toys are based off of previous toys like the person who said it was in the wrong. Like em, love em, praise em, but this is not an opinion, so please quit with the alternative facts speak in a place known for accurate enough information on soft vinyl toys when people are looking for them... I'm kinda surprised you don't get this, even if you're best friends with pxa (not saying you are).

EDIT: I take this back: "...all of their toys are based off of toys that they like (all from previously existing sofvi toys so far)." Pxa's Mecha Kong seems to strongly be influenced by Arklon's die-cast King Kong, or the resin Bootleg Kong versions by Kirkland (which I still really want 1 of).

It's like herpes, the trend that just won't go away.
I think my main problem is I can't imagine any monster being able to destroy anything without squabbling between the two heads. Two vicious brains in one body? What if one wants to eat a victim and the other wants to smash everything?
Maybe I'm looking too far into this.

    Off topic:

Actually funny thing is the Villain in He-Man Two Bad is just about that. He is stronger and more cunning than most villain 's and could easily destroy He-Man but the problem is nether head can agree on anything so they are easily overcome most of the time.

Why is there a need to tell other people their toys suck? SB etiquette should include each being able to enjoy their own without being shamed.

It's more about calling people out for ripping off other people's toys.. as far as this thread goes. There are a lot of new collectors who might buy these based on how cool/original/interesting they look.. might as well point out that they are being duped. On the other end of the spectrum for more experienced collectors it's a matter of identifying what they are ripping off with each release.

These toys are the sofubi equivalent of producing enamel pins that feature The Simpsons characters. Maybe he's trying to build up cash to make an original character with no risk of losing his own money.. but i doubt it.

I basically stand by everything i said.

Of course i am able to see the issue many here are taking.

I assume most of us saw the coming trends of 3d sculpting, printing and alternative vinyl toy production ramping up over the last several years. i personally love watching it unfold and these guys (PlanetX) are doing it amazingly well.

I'd say the most prominent opposition to Chinese toy production has always been over all quality, right? well it's becoming painfully obvious that that is basically out the window now with some of these up and comers.

PlanetX and Justin Ishmael made the same toy but very differently. Some companies going the hardcore official route and other not at all but picking and choosing who did it for the love of it and who did it for simple profit is a matter of opinion.

I'm not best friends with planetX, just a fan. I am aware the purists here always take issue with originality and production origin. I'm often accused here of only speaking out for a toy so i cant paint, sell and profit from them which is literally never the case.

And you're right Glenn PlanetX isn't at all on the same level as ultimate opportunist rip off artists Target Earth, they are 10 fold better.

I just wanna start by saying that I'm not looking to argue with anyone on here about this particular topic.. and..

I say MORE "fucking" POWER to anyone out there that can muster up enough creative energy to use a 3D printer or sculpt an alluring object out of wax or whatever and then get their product electroplated or produce a cheap resin mold, meticulously paint up a run of 50 or more pieces, magically create a rad header card out of thin air, bag 'em up, staple 'em, promote the hell out of it, design a half decent web site to sell them on and then actually get it into the hands of someone that is visually excited about their design. Which to me honestly is the hardest part. I just don't give a flying fuck about any of this stupid bullshit anymore.. one head.. two heads or fifty thousand penis heads with bat wings and battle axe firing butt-holes or who copied who first  Just buy the god-damn toy if you really like it and everyone else can piss off. End rant...!!!!

On a happier note I absolutely "LOVE" this hobby and all the passionate hardcore collectors and producers out there alike, even if I don't buy a certain toy or support a certain artist I still adore looking at all they have to offer because the entire scene as a whole makes me extremely happy and my life so much better because I'm a part of it.. however minuscule that part may be.

The two-headed ape looks decently sculpted, but...
OMG can I get a vinyl version of the triple duck-beast-mecha from that art @sumatra71?! What is that from?
