Some of you pointed out exactly why I think it's fugly...

    • eye and tongue almost looks like monocole + mustache
    • another "gnarly/zombie/gross" sculpt (yaaawn)
    • random robot parts for no real reason
    • proportions like a damn peanut with legs
    • oversized and overpriced
    • NEW MAKER!!!11 (Seriously, if you're a new maker, MAKE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION.)
Whoever sculpted it does have skill, and that's the saddest part... make something that someone hasn't seen before, not the same shit we've been seeing time and time again.
In all honestly, I feel like this is trying to ride the coattails of the new Masterworks Cadaver Kid.

Seriously, is he going to release every color of the rainbow as blank "prototype" before an official release? It's a good way of building hype, i guess...

I'm definitely gonna have to agree with this sentiment, particularly the part about there being no innovation for something of its scale. A lot can be done with new shapes, forms and details with a 12" figure, and this is kind of just the same ol' bubbly, "gross" textures. Again, I don't hate it, but it's something we've all seen before, and this goes without any flare, but I'm not against seeing myself owning one. I will say, though, for a 12" toy the price point is fairly reasonable.

Personally i don't give a fuck if it reuses elements from other toys so long as it looks good to me in particular. I'll take a pic of the blue blank once I finally receive it in the mail. Hell even artist that are original still rip off elements from other media's and twist it around enough to look quote on quote "original".

Like zombies on almost every type of media including toys are overdone. But I normally buy it up if I see because I like it and just don't care if it's original or not.

True, it's just that at this point in "modern sofubi" these kind of sculpts have literally become vomit falling out of the metaphorical production mouth of the toy making community.
    It just. Keeps. Coming. :(

If you like it and end up enjoying the toy, good, that's more power to you. Be clear that I'm not trying to attack people who like these kind of toys... I know people's tastes are different.
I'm just personally tired of these new makers turning the sofubi "scene" into a predictable line of new gore products.

Give me something freakin' weird! Make me stop and look deeper! Make me ask "what the heck is the story behind THAT?"
That's what I want to see... not another neckless peanut zomboid with a goofy grin.

i would honestly like the figure a lot more if it was maybe 6inches? nothing innovative or crazy but i know painted up it would be really cool to see how directional sprays would catch on the heavy texture. the face doesnt do anything for me either, the two tongues seem like a rush to make it stand out more.

there are too many things in our known world to draw influence from, we dont need to rehash the same elements this quickly. then again, what do i know, in my opinion a new mini grasshopper toy is one of my favorite releases of 2016.

@Headhunter I get what you mean by artists drawing different influences, but there's been a handful of instances where I think it's a bit too derivative and not enough making it their own. This is one of those instances. The arms feel almost exactly Nag - like, as does the upper left side of the eye/head. And the mechanical leg, in my opinion, feels a lot like "how can we aesthetically break this up from everything we wanted this to look like...? *lightbulb* Robot leg!"

My language is just colorful when im talking. Im not necessarily attacking anyone when im speaking sometimes lol

An action figure sized sofubi version of this would be even better! Id dig it definitely. I could have Captain America and some of my other 6 inch figures fighting the beast.

Thats fine if you ask me since allot of this seems to be targeted at newer sofubi makers. Maybe we should offer suggestions for them like that instead of being supper vitriol and bitter about them making stuff that looks like other things. Hell some might even take the advice into consideration when making future versions.

Didn't Coop design a very similar concept for NNN? When I first saw this, I thought it
was him working with some other artist

@Headhunter I wouldn't consider anything I've said at all vitriol or bitter, rather that I'm simply expressing my opinion and view. Considering many people categorize toys as art, the criticism will come in many waves, both positive and negative, on multiple levels of severity. I don't find it appropriate to shit on people's comments or views just because you don't like them. Even if people are to directly offer advice or input to artists, there's no requirement for it to be all smiles and Hallmark cards.

@kichigai If you happen to stumble across that concept art, that's something I'm very interested in seeing!

I have a red Oletromba in hand.
1st of all it shipped from the Netherlands...
The vinyl has a very matte look/feel and Chinese style plug articulation points.

Also looking more closely it noticeably came from a 3D printed master sculpt.
Here is a pic of the layer lines.

I am all for experimentation and I like this figure, it will be super fun to paint and I think I deserves a thread, though it is not Japanese vinyl and the price is questionable.

For whatever reason, knowing that it has the articulated style plugs puts me off.

Plus the 3d print lines, seems so fucking lazy considering the price tag.

One more thought I had, this 1st painted release image almost looks Photoshoped not actually painted.
    Am I crazy?

Man those 3D printer layering lines are absolutely fucked.. it's like they had no desire to clean things up in the wax stage. Just wanted to get it into vinyl asap and watch the $$$ come rolling through. And yeah the colouring/shading on the eye/teeth look like a photoshop airbrush job.. hard to tell with the rest of the body, but digital colouring over such a busy sculpt would cover up anything that looks artificial.

That sketches me out a little, seeing that Martoy Black / Kaiju Monster is based in the Netherlands. You think he's moving from flipping to making fauxfubi? Could just be a coincidence though, I mean... I'm sure there's more than one toy collector in the Netherlands.

And ugh, 3D printing lines on the vinyl itself? Definitely sounds like a rush job or cheap production, both of which scream "bandwagon cash cow" to me.

Forgive me, but I'm not familiar with Chinese-style plug articulation. Can someone explain the difference between that and regular sofubi joints?

That entire thing is god awful. I've been called out for being somewhat diplomatic and lighthearted on certain toys and paints, but that full "painted" version is just straight fuckin' gross. And not cool Nag/BGT/Autopsy Baby gross, but just flat out bad.

It looks like the meatloaf my mother made yesterday, before it was cooked and with a lot more metal bits.

(But seriously, my mom is a great cook, and this toy is hideous.)

This Oletromba isn't going to easily lend itself to a variety of colorways and painting styles, in my opinion.

    Thar
That's what you get for buying these hideous looking things.

Yup, it's probably Kaiju Monster who's behind this (90% certain) piece of crap.
