On that not Metal, but not NOT Metal tip, I've got three hard tickets to the sold-out Friday, 1/27 Sleep / Melvins show at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood that I'm looking to sell. Change of plans after purchase and I'm going to Sat. night show now instead. Asking $40 each (they were $29.50 face value + $12.25 in fees). They're all GA/Floor. Lemme know if anyone's interested. Just saw Sleep up here last weekend and they totally ripped it up!! REALLY excited to see em with Melvins... I'm dreaming of some sorta team-up for at least a song, but that might just be wishful thinking. I'm in NorCal, so if you're in SoCal, I'd ask you to do Paypal for goods/services (to protect your purchase) and then I'd mail down. Please DM me if interested.
@evom - oh man, DUH... thanks, I seriously was doing all these different searches on SLEEP and Melvins and that's where I meant to post in the first place! Ugh, my brain is not my friend this week.
Curious as to peoples thoughts on bands like Young And In The Way, Black Breath, etc? Terms like black metal and crust punk or d-beat get tossed around regarding bands like these... I have been digging some of the riffs from YAITW. Musically, I like some of what Black Breath does, but I'm not a fan of the vox. Shit, I don't know. Open for discussion...
Found myself basically obsessed with Falkenbach as of late. Absolutely fantastic stuff this guy's put out.
I wouldn't call them black metal, but YAITW are really good. I guess crust punk fits better, but i'm trying ( no, really...) to not label the hell out of everything. I listened to 'When Life Comes To Death' the other day from YAITW....fantastic album. LOVE Falkenbach ! 'Asa' happens to be my favorite from them, excellent choice ! All of the critics and fans are posting their favorite albums from 2016, so I figure it's time for me to throw my two cents in.... Megadeth - Dystopia Voivod - Post Society Abbath - Abbath Darkthrone - Arctic Thunder Eternal Champion - The Armor Of Ire High Spirits - Motivator Sumerlands - Sumerlands Inquisition - Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith Blood Incantation - Starspawn Imperium Dekadenz - Dis Manibvs Despised Icon - Beast Ihsahn - Arktis. Skuggsja - A Piece For Mind And Mirror Aborted - Retrogore Wretch - Wretch The Vision Bleak - The Unknown After All - Waves Of Annihilation Borknagar - Winter Thrice Exmortus - Ride Forth Running Wild - Rapid Foray Vektor - Terminal Redux
I'm actually really kind of sad I haven't found any other bands or songs that hit as hard or strike a cord with me like most of Falkenbach's stuff. If you have any suggestions for similar groups please point me in the right direction! Also I see you posted Abbath's solo stuff in your lineup. I really loved it when it first got released but It grew a little old after a month or two....I dunno what happened... may have been all the live footage I watched from his recent tour(s) which were NOT good at all which is kinda a bummer.
I'd check out these groups if you haven't already... Thyrfing Manegarm SIG : AR : TYR Forefather Crimfall Ensiferum Borknagar ( and the Skuggsja album from my best of list is similar in theme and execution to Falkenbach) Interesting, my reaction was almost the opposite. I was a little lukewarm with the album at first, but it grew on me considerably with time ( although it isn't close to the mighty Immortal )
yaitw. dont care black breath. if they play second on a bill of 4 bands i wouldnt be upset if i missed them.
^^^ They make me want to listen to these guys: and these guys: On a side note, I used to work as a delivery driver for a big box store and one of the other drivers and I would jam to Nile and Cattle Decap all day while hauling fridges. It was awesome.
Stuff I found existed while in China : ^ This beeing ultra weird for me because they're a bunch of expat Quebecers !
I fuckin love me some Conan! I enjoy YAITW but find myself much more attracted to a band like Wolvhammer. That whole arena of bands that get called blackened core or whatever is really hard to handle sometimes. Lately all I have been able to really dig is the new Gatecreeper and Horrendous stuff
Obsessed with these guys from Boston. Total Celtic Frost worship with some early Immortal vocals. Shit gets real at the 1:45 mark.
Recent discovery of mine from last week. A great album to listen to while you're trying to crank something out, I can attest to that for sure.
I watched Neurosis live last night and I have to say the songs ended up feeling kinda same-ish to me. I know some people might see that as sacrilege but I don't know, it was so perfect that it sounded as if I was listening to the studio recordings. Not gritty enough of a performance for me I suppose.
^ I tried really hard to like Horisont, I went and listened to all their album, some twice. This whole genre only manage to piss me off (like it did back in the days I guess, when the enemies were sporting Doors, Floyd or Led Zep shirts ). Malleus sounds great the the vokilz sucks, I'd punch him. Chapel is from BC so I won't even give them a chance . I don't even have something to suggest.. OK OK, I'll just move along : )
^ What about Nidingr ??? Nothing negative to say about them ? I tried to like their older releases and just wasn't feeling it, but the new one got me. Really like the new album. For our entertainment
