Surprised no one has started a thread yet... Anyone else watching? I love that they are expanding upon the original film and focusing on more of Delos' inner workings. Loving the soundtrack as well.

Aside from all the graphic gun tote n' Western violence, I am more into the psychological aspects of this show - classic Sci-Fi "Free Will vs. Determinism" going on. The narrative timeline is also quite interesting, things almost seem to be happening simultaneously. Who is a guest and who is a host? And where does this maze lead?!

I want to like it a lot more than I do to be honest. I am withholding full judgement and willing to give it some leeway, but honestly, I have not been all that impressed with it yet, and frankly am actually a little surprised at what is being delivered coming from HBO. Perhaps I was just hoping for too much, or being such a fan of the original and general sci-fi stuff, has left me wanting a little something different. I am hoping it turns around with some amazing beats, but I have my suspicions that this might turn out to be very similar to Mr. Robot's second season, for those that have seen it. But I am still somewhat optimistic and will keep watching.

I tried to get into it but it bored me to tears honestly after 2 episodes. Just kept going in circles, the androids are going rogue and becoming self aware, we fix them (or decommission them), lots of talking about plans, Ed Harris is going after other androids, over an over. I wanted more build up of the androids going rogue and how they go nuts on vistors to the park. It's hard to tell who is a android and who is human really?

It has my attention but I'm certainly not on the edge of my seat. Great acting and cinematography for sure but I don't feel attached to anyone at this point. The story itself feels pretty disjointed. I think I need a better explanation of the dynamics between the outside world and the park. The first episode and a half I sort of thought the park was in that hologram on the table and existed in virtual reality or some such nonsense.

Mr Robot's second season was better than the first IMO.

I watched episode four last night and liked it a lot. I was reserving proper judgement until i was a few episodes in,
and i can say now without a doubt i am definitely hooked. Maybe I'm biased because i love Westerns and 'Hell on
Wheels' is now over, so its a way of continuing my Wild West addiction . . . .

Ed Harris is sooo good in it. I also think it has a lot of potential and scope for some very interesting ' Ex Machina'
    style Android shenanigans!

Just to clarify my statement - and I don't want to get too much into it, as that discussion really belongs in the Mr. Robot thread - I actually really liked the second season too. It is a pretty incredible show all around. What I was specifically referring to though, is a possibly similarity where the season made it very clear the showrunners/writers clearly have incredible ideas of a massive backstory and where they are taking the world of the show. There was so much going on, and it was all interesting. If there is any weakness to it, it is just that I think, cramming so much into the one season, there is almost no way they could satisfactorily tie everything together or give the audience closure on it all. Each one of those storylines could be an entire season in other shows (which is also a mistake), but piling so much on to one leaves you metaphorically shuffling closer and closer to the edge of your seat - in a good way - only to end. We are left with only a heap more questions than going in to the start. And I am not sure any were even answered. Which is excellent of course, I just can't wait until season three now. So, my point is that I could easily foresee a similar vein in Westworld, where a lot of different things are 'proposed' and given the limited number of episodes in any season, I am not sure to what extent it is going to wrap things up/provide any concrete answers as to what is going on. Mr. Robot at least provided a foundation season to set the world and bring the audience in at a normal pace. The second season was virtually an entirely different show than the first (in a great way), but very connected; phenomenally executed for almost all of it, and I loved it.

    * oops, took longer than I anticipated to explain all that. Oh well
** also, I have tried to avoid any spoilers for Mr. Robot, as I don't want to give anything away for anyone who hasn't yet seen it

The 4th episode is where things definitely picked up for me as well, especially with the Man in Black and his reasoning behind the gratuitous Host killing. I have a feeling Regarding the disjointed pacing of the show - I wonder if its intentionally done to mimic as if we were viewing the world through a Hosts eyes i.e. having certain memories reset each day...

Haven't finished Season 2 of Mr. Robot yet so no spoilers please!

I don't know why I'm surprised it's gotten a fairly "meh" review around here - I should know better. Personally, I feel it renders all other TV shows moot. (Not really, but it quickly became the most interesting TV I've seen since Lost.) The scope has the potential to be huge, and it can go in so many different directions. I'm very excited to see where they take it and to find out if any of my thoughts or suspicions pan out.

I really enjoy this show. It's fantastic sci fi rooted in classic existential themes. Asimov, Dick, Roddenberry, and Sagan would be sharing and retweeting this shit until their thumbs fell off.

Haha yeah, nicely done too. My brother called Bernard being a sleeper, something to do with someone saying he'd been at the park 'forever' . . . . he will be smug about that.

    Cracking episode. Great TV.

Yeah, saw that one coming! Didn't expect them to confirm it so quickly, but I guess S1 is almost over so they have to give us a couple answers.

I fully admit I had no idea at all until he said "what door?" then my mind was blown.

Hopkins is a treasure plain and simple.

    Yep, still loving it.

My brother is pissing me off banging-on about all 'his' theories . . . . which he's reading online and trying to
pass-off as his own, but that's not the fault of the show.

Half the reason why I like reading internet theories is so the show can disprove them and surprise me. In that regard, reading reddit heavily during this first season really dampened the experience for me since most of the theories were correct. It's so addicting though, hope I can use a bit more self control next season.
