Spoke with someone who recently unfollowed the account due to it sharing legitimate pro Putin sympathies (I write Putin because I’m sure plenty Russian civilians oppose the current situation).

Unfortunately it’s my understanding that a lot of Chinese mainlanders are sympathetic to Putin’s plight due to the current narrative being disseminated on Weibo, Wechat etc. Realistically it isn’t so far removed from Xi’s own ideals of China’s re-unification with Taiwan and Hong Kong. Now with that mind, if an invasion of Taiwan happens by Chinese forces soon, then shit has really hit the fan and we are much closer to the prospect of World War 3. Fingers crossed that nothing happens as I would hate to be right (rare but it happens).

    I’m an anxiety riddled mess.
We’re staring to receive refugees this last week in Berlin. We’re donating and accommodating people as much as we can.

I never thought I’d leave drug war infested Mexico just to end up still dealing with the same problems. So eerie.

I’ve given up trying to talk to anyone supporting Putin. It’s a fools game, they do not see it or they don’t want to see it as a bloodbath for not goddamn reason

Please, let's be rational. Poutine never hurt anybody. :(
(well, to be perfectly honest, I have seen it 'hurt' a lot of people, actually.... but it's always by choice, and generally worth it)

So, there's this Ukrainian movie called Atlantis from 2019. A rather lyrical, post-war vision, taking place in 2025. Can be difficult, but worth watching, imho.

    Tell that to my cardiologist.

This is a shit situation which in my opinion is only going to get much worse before it gets better. If China seizes the opportunity to invade Taiwan all hell is going to break lose. It's one thing for us to sanction Russia but we are way too deeply involved with China to do anything meaningful.

I don't see China doing anything about Taiwan. There are so many differences between the two situations, but the biggest being that China has spent decades building their economy and is now the second largest economy in the world, and arguably the most important in the global economy. Russia has been dying a slow death for the entirety of China's rise - they had little to lose (from Putin's viewpoint), and they've now essentially lost what little they had. Say what you will about Xi, but I don't think he's dumb, rash, or impatient - I don't see him risking everything he and his predecessors have built over the slim possibility of "repatriating" a completely decimated Taiwan.
The only way he'd go for Taiwan is if he thought that the US/world didn't have the stomach for war, and he could take Taiwan without interference. But surely he knows that the US LOVES war, even if we're not good at it. We (not to mention Taiwan) would make the losses not worth the potential gains.

One of the [unfortunately many] parallels that do exist between the Taiwan and Ukraine situation though, is how 'the West' has been utterly complicit in allowing the build up of these regimes, and enabling them to take steps just as are now happening in the Ukraine. We've seen it all many times before, and such inaction amounts to virtual legitimisation of the states' atrocities. This goes far beyond just China and Russia. Sadly, unless governments have a vested interest in protecting and/or disrupting other global regions, we're happy to just cry foul from the sidelines [while pathetically worrying about precious football clubs].

Boris Johnson is lying – the UK could have done far more to stop Russia

And lest people think I am picking on the UK here, let us not forget what 'regime' was truly giving Putin its backing at every opportune moment:
Trump calls Putin 'genius' and 'savvy' for Ukraine invasion

Sanctions against Russia could cause the International Space Station (ISS) to crash and lead to a 500-tonne structure to “fall down into the sea or onto land”, the head of Russian space agency, Roscosmos, said.

Dmitry Rogozin, a vocal supporter of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, called for sanctions to be lifted as they could disrupt the operation of Russian spacecraft servicing the ISS.

As a result, the Russian segment of the station - which helps correct its orbit - could be affected, causing the 500-tonne structure to “fall down into the sea or onto land”, the Roscosmos chief wrote on Telegram.

Publishing a map of the locations where the ISS could possibly come down, he said it was unlikely to be in Russia.

So, do you think Putin and his cronies will stop telling lies at any point and rethink their plans? I'm tired of their international representatives spouting obvious bullshit to justify their actions. Or can they just keep up the lies and the threats?

I don't understand the end-game for this, what exactly does Putin think he's doing? How is this good for Russia? How long can you lie to your people and get away with it?

As someone who has lived under the rule of a Russian agent I can tell you that the lies never stop. Never.

Another 'good graph from Dave Pell's NextDraft newsletter:

Putin was a KGB case worker, not an analyst. An analyst would report on the self destructiveness of this war. A case worker manipulates others to save the situation. And right now, he's trying salvage the support of his regime at home by luring NATO into the fight, knowing emotionally we want in. Meanwhile, he's ominously requested military and economic assistance from China. On one hand, we don't want America and China drawn further into this conflict, and we know proxy wars between the two countries haven't gone particularly well in the past. On the other hand, it's notable that the supposedly massive Russian military is already looking for outside support two weeks into a war of choice. It's a reminder of an Russian joke Garry Kasparov shared, "Every country has its own mafia. Putin's Russia is the first where the mafia has its own country." It sure looks like a lot of the Rubles intended for military build-up have been diverted to the Yachts currently trying to sail clear of economic sanctions.

Yes, that seemed particularly odd. But then, I suppose he didn't expect Ukraine to have so many Stingers etc ...

The UK press are saying Putin is possibly terminally sick, and pumped with steroids ...

As a Chi**se, I guess maybe no one else on this board is more sick of these shitty things than I am...
Actually, as is well known to the whole world, our government is secretly supporting the invasion, the official media doesn't call it an invasion even up to now. And there are tons of messages on mass media criticizing or attacking USA right now, and there are also tons of crappy people posting tons of sh*t supporting the war!
I am sick of all of these, and feel suffocated living under such environment. Geeeze, if I said something like this on our social media, I would be pretty likely under arrest and then lost my job, or even got sentenced...
I feel sad for Ukrainian people, and feel pathetic for all those crazy dictators...

My concern is Putin feeling like a cornered dog and coming to the conclusion that he has zero to lose. We are talking about a guy who has no qualms whatsoever in killing and torturing people. Including his own. This goes all the way back to his appointment to prime minister by Yeltsin and the so-called terrorist bombings killing hundreds of his "comrades." Blame was put on Chechen terrorists that was pretty much debunked almost from the get go. This was all to turn attention away from Yeltsin's mounting corruption allegations. That's just one mass murder we know about. The guy is a psychopath. Just like Jinping, Assad, Erdogan, Trump, Myint and more than 40 others at the helm right now.

I was around during the cold war and it was scary as shit. Lot's of propaganda from both the West and East and none of it good.

Taking these people "out" will only create a vacuum to be filled by some other despot. The change has to come from within and without the hands-on influence of the West.

One thing I continue to find amusing is the constant West bashing and how we are scum. All the while these fuckers are amassing our goods, education and lifestyle.

Other than the aforementioned, I don't think of this much :?

Just wanna say, Volodymyr Zelenskiy continues to amaze me. I think it says a fucking lot, just how shockingly unusual it is to have someone like him on the world stage in this era, facing what he and his people are facing with such seriousness, steadiness and courage. He's inspiring. Though the circumstances are horrifically dire and unwanted, it's good to have a reminder- and it's good for young people especially to see, in real time and not just in images from the past- what a world leader can and should be in the most trying times.

Yeah, something quite similar happened in my place. It is as if calling folk out for their support for the war makes one a traitor to the country:x:cry:...
However, there are indeed lots of kind and civilized people here, but their voices are muffled by the mainstream noises.

Just watched this too. Incredible; heartfelt, honest, and sincere. Just the messaging we need to actually be spreading right now [and always, to counter the machinations of propaganda]. And I mean this just as much internally.
