I followed your recommendation. What a show!
Felt like some Cronenberg/Lynch world from the 90s.
Some images will haunt me for a time.

Oh, and I followed my whole family and gave a chance to Ted Lasso. It’s becoming one of my favorite show of all time. Perfect like on cringe fun without over caricaturing anyone. People are believable…
Great series after the dark weird Brand New Cherry Flavor.

She looks like Sweet Dee from Always Sunny drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz.

Anybody/everybody up on Succession? Just finished a reasonably paced second look at the first two seasons - works best, in my opinion, with an ep a day; gives you time to marinate on/recover from the previous installment - and am eager to find the time to step into the new one. Honestly, if you haven't stepped on board the helicopter yet, I envy you a bit, as you didn't have to wait two full years to find out what happens next.

Not big on billionaire porn, as a general rule, but Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show, The Thick of It, maybe the best episode of Black Mirror) and the entire crew have made me a believer. Funniest, tensest and most satisfying character/cultural study on the box.

Yup! Dysfunctional rich people are just funny I guess!

Whilst I'm here . . . did someone just rehash Dexter as 'You' for the generation that missed out on seeing Dexter?

I’d watch it for Kieran Culkin alone… he is a modern day Crispin Glover.

“What I think he meant to say was that he wished that Mom gave birth to a can opener, because at least then it would be useful.”

I’m on S3 but now having to pace myself to release dates.

Have you had a look at The Sparks Brothers yet? Have you? It's okay if you haven't. I'll wait over here.

So I'm 7/8th of the way through season 1 of Euphoria and am absolutely loving it. Maybe the best teen soap-ish TV thing that I've had a look at since Skins. The (still relatively) new show is more explicit than the UK classic, but somehow less salacious. Not sure exactly how apt this is, but the thought drifted through my head several times while I was having a look that I was experiencing the world's most accessible Gaspar Noé film, ha. YMMV, as is too often said.

Also... Dagnabbit! Both Mike and Jay seem to be over the moon for Midnight Mass, so I guess I have to give it a chance.

Also also... Have you had a look at The Sparks Brothers yet? Get on it!

Mystic Quest streams showed up at last. I liked it a lot. Thought the two episodes that took place in the past were great.

Do we have a dedicated anime thread? I’ve been primarily watching anime lately.

In the past two months or so I’ve seen:

    - Darwin’s Game on Netflix… only one season out so far, started out feeling super generic but got progressively better. It’s another one of those “you just got sucked into a game of life and death that you can’t escape from!” kind of shows.

    - Death Parade on Hulu… really interesting but short. Just one season. Basically put, it’s a glimpse into the process of how human souls are judged. Two humans show up in a bar, not knowing that they’re dead, and have to play a game with each other facilitated by the barkeep. Their actions as they play and regain their memories determine whether they get reincarnated or cast into the void. There’s a bigger yet thin plot running through it too.

    Then NOT anime,
    - Midnight Mass on Netflix… an absolute doozy. It’s kind of a slow burn at first, and then just goes absolutely apeshit. It’s definitely horror, and if you’re the kind of person who’s a bit freaked out by organized religion or religious zealotry, it’s even more unsettling. Just be aware that some of the content is heavy.

Right now I’m rewatching JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure on Netflix from the very beginning. I’m not doing great so watching something a bit familiar and kind of… well, ridiculous, has been therapeutic.

Has anyone seen The Chestnut Man on Netflix? It looks really interesting, I’ve read some people compare it to True Detective S1 which I absolutely adored. Would love to hear if it’s worth a watch.

Just stared Succession and I have to agree with this sentiment.

The next part is available on Netflix December 1st! I have been so excited for this as I love the manga. Jolyne absolutely kills it!

    Yellowjackets on Showtime.
NJ state champion high school soccer team's plane goes down in the remote Canadian wilderness in 1996. Stranding them for months.
Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci and others star as adults w younger actresses portraying them in the past. Flips back and forth in time.
Possible cannibalism? Who knows. I'm one episode in.

    New JoJo was great!
    Started Reservation Dogs. Fantastic.
Show of the year? Your Honor staring Brian Cranston. One season (hopefully) some of the best acting and writing i've ever seen on tv

I am very late to the game on The Expanse but I love it. Just finished season 3. First time in a while that I've been so invested in a story that I will yell at the TV when something surprising happens.

May I recommend Death Kappa on Tubi:
unvaccinated hooligans roaming about in convertible VW bugs, high on Corona, running down grammas!
Pseudo scientist trigger nuclear explosions, resurrecting Angilas{?}, which then proceeds to make a mockery of anti-Gorgon laser weaponry!

    Oh mommy!

Thankfully, Death Kappa comes to rescue with some rather sophisticated sumo, non-chuck, dodge-ball & fire-shield moves to finish off that horny bastard.
Cool as cucumbers! Not a dry plate left in the house..

Me thinking Kappa is on the case:
Me realizing Death Kappa is O-Me-Kron!
A cautionary tale for these trying times, if I've ever seen one.

I definitely will, eventually. I think it's excellent that the authors are the same ones scripting the show. Every episode has been a solid slice of pizza: it's a standard serving that advances the storyline and characters as much as the last episode did and the next one will. "Bubbles" are few and far between. It never feels like the writers are dawdling.

One thing I really like about the books is their consistency - right down to chapter length. Perhaps some may find it formulaic, but having consistent - and perfectly sized - chapters makes them very quick books to read despite their page totals. I can't remember where I am in the series - I either have 1 or 2 more to read - but aside from one book I've found them all to be fun reads.
Early on my "complaint" was that the crew reminded me too much of Firefly/Serenity. But soon enough I just enjoyed them for what they are. My complaint with the show was that the characters didn't match - at all - what I thought they should look like. I still don't particularly care for the Roci crew casting, but I'm fine with it - and others more than make up for it (Shohreh/Avasarala, Gee/Drummer).

I was resistant, but then I read the name Melanie Lynskey. Why didn't you say so? I'm in! Solidly constructed first hour. Feels like it will be quality trash, but I'm fully open to it totally surprising me.

Three slices in to Station Eleven now. Fully for it. Join me?
