Thanks. I see you posted that on the previous page but the images weren't loading the first time I was reading it. Was this one of his 3D sculpts?
I assumed it was, but apparently not. From AA's blog (https://ameblo.jp/anrakuansaku/entry-12337815336.html): * Translated Q: Is this product digitally processed from that time? Is the size different? A: Since I started working with Medicom, the number of digital prototype products has increased, but this time Baragon is not a digital prototype but a completely manual new prototype. (No digital or scan)
I stopped buying things made by Medicom a while ago...If you bought this you should write them and complain. that is a major difference
If I had to choose between the masked vs freehand paint app, I'd choose the freehand personally (I like the softness, and it reminds me of vintage paint apps), but only if all of it were freehand as opposed to this weird contrast of styles. I'd be ok with either a fully masked spine or all by freehand, but having the head masked and the back freehand is quite distracting and hard to ignore.
Finally grabbed First Gogamejira and got it at a steal! This thing is way cooler in person. Wish I hadn't have slept on it the first time around but I got it for less than half the initial price of it anyway so I guess it worked out.
Congrats! I’d been debating it for a long time but just couldn’t get myself to pull the trigger. It’s surprising what you can find on Amazon these days.
This was already shared in the fugly thread for reasons that should be obvious. I'm kind of speechless... just what were they thinking? Photo courtesy of sofvi.tokyo. The daubing effect that seems to be a recurring method of application on AA toys produced by Medicom—I don't recall this being featured on his self-produced toys—works on some characters depending on the execution, vinyl color and paint palette, but it really puts me off most of the time.
The finished product paint jobs from Medicom factory painters look much better than this- these paint mockups are done by Anraku himself I believe, and he can no longer really paint because of illness. I agree, it’s not a great way to advertise your toy.
Ah... after comparing a few different prototypes to their final product I believe you're right. Regardless, I'm not sure clean spray lines are going to fix this one.
The paint looks like it would if someone took an original Bullmark Hedorah and then blew it up like a balloon.
Well I like it better than the other teaser. And there is no question that photos I’ve seen of said release coming from collectors was much more pleasant than anticipated. Hoping for a really funky paint on the next Gamera release
I think it's shortsided to blame this paint on illness because I guarantee the next AA toy won't be this bad. Bottom line the toy is terrible. Looking at the image it almost looks like a painting which I get but it's just really bad.
I hate that I actually like this sculpt, ‘cause it’s SO bad that it’s charming. But I just don’t think this particular paint app works positively in any way for it at all.
It’s going to be the next ‘thing’. Just you watch! Haha The toy based on the Hedo cartoon(ice always loved) definitley should of been more cutesy than painfully ugly. Oh well, taking it to new levels of ugh
Such a shame about this color way. The original green version was fantastic. This yellow atrocity is nearly unrecognizable.
Anybody else get the Smaug? I was going back thru the blog the other day, that design has been in development for several years. I like how it ended up and the color especially suits it. His reptile keeping has really shaped the way he designs his toys now. And on a separate note I still wish Medicom would do a paint of the salary panda and bug man. They have them because they did blanks for the lucky bags which I stupidly slept on. Anyone have an extra of each they'd be willing to part with?
