If anyone is interested, there are a bunch of Godzilla Cartoons by Hanna-Barbara on the dailymotion website and app. My 5yo daughter and I are binge watching the show right now and enjoying it thoroughly. (The one with Godzooky) I figured I'd share. Enjoy! https://www.dailymotion.com/search/Godzilla 1978/videos
Lol, I can see that. It's for sure not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it definitely has that classic Hanna-Barbara cartoon feel like Scooby-Doo which we like as well. We're enjoying ourselves though, my daughter even put on her Godzilla costume to watch it, lol.
Godzooky = Scrappy Doo Both are the harbingers of doom to otherwise iconic series Upside, love that your daughter watches the cartoons in her Godzilla costume Slowly watching the Godzilla compendium with my son; good fun.
Lol, for sure @Mr Fox ! The cartoon is cheesy as heck, as were a lot of cartoons back then, but surprisingly I'm still enjoying them, full on cheese and all, lol. And my daughter does like Gadzooky, so he's OK in my book so far. And yeah... Scrappy Doo... ugh... I was not a fan of him. He definitely had a Napoleon complex going on... oof. That's fantastic that you're watching Godzilla movies with your son! I will probably do so with my daughter in a couple of years I'm guessing. Right now those movies would not be able to hold her attention, so I'm really glad that she's liking the cartoon series. And yes! Bonus points for the Godzilla costume! She was stomping around like godzilla during his scenes, lol. It was fun to watch. There's definitely a few things on my list to watch with her when she gets a little bit older! Godzilla, Star Trek, Star Wars, classic comedies, etc. come to mind. Good times <3
When my children were younger, I used to watch the original Scooby Doo with them and it always brought back great childhood memories of sitting with a bowl of cereal on a Saturday morning, watching the gang do their stuff. Interestingly, when any of the later Scrappy infused episodes came on, they lost interest - so it isn't just my generation that disliked that toad. I can't imagine Scrappy Doo ever played well with focus groups, so perhaps the decision makers just took it upon themselves to add such an odious character, thinking it would bring something new to the show. As for future pop culture education, you've got a lot to look forward to with your daughter: vintage cartoons (Wacky Racers, classic Scooby, Dungeons & Dragons, then moving onto Star Blazers, etc), when she is a little older, vintage Godzilla, 80s Battle Star, Star Wars, Trek, etc and then, in the mid teens, all the films of John Hughes. My daughter is an 80s junkie and has an amazing appreciation for the music and films of that era (brainwashed... ). Now, Dad project: you need to make small buildings out of cardboard, so that you daughter, in her goji outfit, has something appropriate to stomp on. It is never too early to foster an appreciation of kaiju urban remodelling...
@Mr Fox , Ah yes, the original Scooby-Doo was best, and I also enjoyed the ones where it was just Shaggy and Scooby-Doo when they had the Monster car racing. Scrappy was in that one, but he wasn't as terrible as he was on the sidelines. But yes, that tiny dog was annoying af! Great shows that you listed that I will look forward to showing my daughter! A few even I forgot about like D&D and Star Blazers. All great choices. And John Hughes movies will most definitely be on the list for when she will be able to appreciate them. I love watching those when I was younger with my parents and now I will enjoy watching them with my kiddo as well. I love classic comedies. A lot of movies this day and age just don't have that same warmth and feel as those classics do. And as for the Dad/Mom project (Kaiju loving mama here - and no worries, it's hard to tell just by screen names and such), that is a fantastic idea! We have a bunch of cardboard boxes that wind up in recycling, so I'll put some into good use for building construction and Godzilla stomping! Thanks for that idea! I can't believe I didn't think of that before.. lol I will do that with her for the next animated Godzilla viewing.
I remember the song getting stuck in my head for days. Godzooki was the worst. I watched it at the time just to see big G, but man it was bad.
My apologies, I shouldn’t have assumed and as you say, a challenge to tell with users names Regarding cardboard city, think of it as a two for one deal: fun with your daughter and saving you the time of having to compact the boxes for recycling! As for the films of John Hughes, yes, those are definitely mid-late teens depending on the film. On a similar note, I remember watching Goonies with my daughter for the first time, iirc she was 12-ish, and I had forgotten how strong some of the language (and suggestive statements) were. There was definitely a different standard for children’s films in the 80s!
No worries and no apologies needed. It's no secret that this hobby and forum has a lot more males in it, but it is definitely fun (at least for me) to find out that some are female that share a similar passion for these toys. I know of at least 4 others on SB, but I'm sure there are more. And yes! That is definitely a plus that she can compact those boxes in a fun way for recycling, lol. Such a great idea! Haha, yes! Definitely a lot more swearingin this films. However, I swear that I remember certain movies that were rated R when I was a kid that are now rated PG-13..? I won't mind the swearing as much in shows/movies, especially those classics. My 5yo knows of those words, and I explained to her that they are mean/bad words and that she shouldn't say them (and I even told her that we should say something like "fudge/fudgecake/froggy sit" instead if feeling compelled to). I occasionally drop the "F" bomb when I stub my toe or something along those lines where it's harder to control, and then my daughter says "Hey! You're supposed to say "froggy sit!" It's so adorable and hilarious, lol. And yes! Children's films and cartoons definitely got away with a lot more back in the 80's and early 90's than they do now. Classic cartoons like Tom and Jerry and the Looney Toons were a lot more violent and had things like smoking cigarettes and such back in the day. While the newer versions do have some wacky violence, they are not near the levels that they used to be at.
That would be a project! Lol I kind of feel weird sharing photos/videos of my daughter in a public space, so not 100% sure that I will or not. I'm sure most, possibly all of you here on SB are cool/decent, but I also know there are weird creeps out there which is what makes me hesitant. Maybe I can put a mask on her face or something, lol. I wouldn't even know how to share a video here though. Does imgur share videos? (Haven't signed up yet, but have been meaning to.)
Thanks! Now I know who to stay away from! Lol, there is definitely a spectrum for the weird and creepy themselves as well. I'm a weirdo myself and like strange and different things. I more so was trying to refer to pedo creeps, which I sure as heck hope SB lacks those specific types of creeps!
I don't have kids, but if I did, I wouldn't be posting pics of them videos on public threads on Skullbrain, not so much because it's Skullbrain but because it's pretty much a public site where anyone can access content without a login. Probably better to share them via PM.
^ All reasonable points, but I still live in a world in my head where we can share fun stuffs freely on the interweb. Either way, a Goji mask for your little one is a great idea! PM share requested?
@Roger , exactly. While I'm thinking and hoping that most SB members are fine in that matter, this is a forum open to the public even if they aren't members, so I more than likely will refrain. I didn't mind posting a photo when she was a baby as much, but now that she's a few years older I'm definitely a lot more cautious about these things. @toothaction , I'll send you a pm if I ever make that video. I don't have a godzilla mask, and I don't know if I'm creative enough to make one, but we have other masks so we shall see what works. I might want to wait till the weather gets warmer to make an outdoor video. It probably will be so lackluster though! Lol
Wasn't sure where to post this...almost put it in the Is America Fucked thread, but decided to put it here instead. I think this perfectly captures the essence of the US.
