That sculpt is fun, it's like a Bob's Big Boy that had an encounter with Cthulhu. Those paint jobs don't make any sense, though.

I believe that figure is being pulled by Mile High Sofubi, isn't it?

Totally agree. I thought he was painting his own toys. Whoever it is, is doing a great job. I think the multiple face sculpts are interesting but I'm also incredibly sick of Mickey mouse stuff. And now Mario. And the prices are CRAZY!

You know, now that you point it out, why doesn't this head sculpt have the doll eye? :?:

It certainly feels like there's been a lot recently. At least make the homage sensible.

Now for something that makes sense, Pinocchio + boner + face mask = Valentine's Day!

It was revealed to me by someone close to him that he doesn’t do anything but fund, sell and collect some time ago. Not at all an issue or out of the ordinary, but he’s consistently heralded himself as the sole artist behind everything, as far as I remember. Besides the Mimi Monster, though, his prices have always been pretty bananas, but got really bad with the first Bobo.

I think the last decent Mario toy I saw made was an Akira rip. Past that I’m seein’ stupid shit like Pulp Fiction Vincent + Mia/Mario + Peach, and most recently a Total Recall Mario. Just like Mickey before, and even still now, I just see it as a shitty way to have a pop culture reference sell your wares, rather than actual, creative integrity. I’m not an artist, so I could simply be huffing, but it feels cheap and lazy. I’ve certainly seen homages that took from the source material and was made its own, but those don’t fit the criteria from a layman’s perspective.

Definitely a fun toy. I got Big Boy right off the bat from the teasers I’d seen, but the tentacles and alien face make me think more of Kang and Kodos from The Simpsons. If he hasn’t yet, a Big Boy paint would be rad.

    ^^^ THIS!

Great little sculpt but the paint does it no favours!

I could see this lil' guy looking real classy with some 'subtle' recessive retro paint.

Even the neons and day-glow would've been fine if applied with a little finesse and/or logic behind 'em, but these are just all over the place (IMESHO).

Maybe I’m just OCD, but that head joint bothers me more than anything.

Possible intentional jankiness to highlight the head/body juxtaposition.

Figured this was a 'get in before the bell' deal just to fuck with the thread so looked deeper . . . and, whilst these two are cheesy and kinda lame (fabric clothes/painted pants/desperately trying to be relevant) there are a few earlier versions in simple (less needy) colourways that work great.

Definitely more (f)ART than TOY and intentionally fugly, but by no means the worst on this thread.

. . . . decomposing babies on the other hand!

I don't mind this toy as much personally, but there is definitely some off-putting things going on. The neck joint is a bit of an eyesore as stated above, and the weird juxtaposition of the two textures, between the smooth faces and the roughly texture bodies, is a bit "off" for me. The painted on pants is a little strange given that texture, makes me wonder if there is a micro penis under that garb.. That would definitely push me over the edge into a much stronger "dislike" category.

I think I mainly like the faces. It doesn't fit into the kaiju world, but as an art toy I kind of like those faces.

I think I remember that textured body starting off with a different head, which possibly explains the difference in textures and the dodgy head joint.

The first head for this body. I think next he did the Nag/Ultra looking head, and finally the Caligula looking one.

Thanks for the info. I figured that the body was for a different toy, just didn't know which one. The arms and legs look a little more muscular and bulky on this figure though. I wonder if they're different or maybe it's just the camera angle? I'm glad that I am not seeing a micro penis though! Lol.

I definitely prefer the Greek/Roman - looking doll heads on this body though than the Vampire Nag-inspired one. But everyone has different tastes and I'm sure there are many who prefer this version over the other ones.

The head & body are different. The word “COPY” is sculpted into the side of the body of the newer one.

Okay, at least the hair makes sense in this case, theme-wise:

That said, I'm unclear on why you'd go this far only to scrimp on freckles and lipstick.

Either way, I hate to see one of my top 3 beasties alluded to on such a sculpt. Messes with my wiring!
